Uniform Scale of Issue Working Group CSgt G Robinson CSgt P Wagstaff CSgt A Kelley Task: The group were tasked to look at the scale of issue of uniforms and equipment currently in use within the Marine cadet sections of the Sea Cadet Corps and to provide any recommendations for any uniforms or equipment that is required by cadets and staff. All the items are in addition to the uniform and equipment already available from SCC stores. Where possible I have included stock numbers and a supply cost for an item. Cadets No 1’s Braces - £4.76 Gloves - £5.88 – These are available from SCC stores on demand however, very few detachments are aware that they can be ordered. Most detachments or cadets are purchasing them locally at around £7-10. Locket and Unions – It is becoming more and more difficult to procure male and female brasses for cadets to wear. At the moment only staff and cadet Sgt’s can wear a locket and union, we believe it would be easier now for all cadets and staff to wear a Locket and Union as they seem more available. White courlene belts and slides Working Uniform C95 DPM Shirt X 2 - £12.35 each – C95 Trousers are now being issued from SCC stores yet we still are issued olive green shirts. Marine Cadet Shoulder Flashes (Black on Green) X 3 – To be worn on shirts and combat jacket, at the moment cadets or detachments are purchasing there own flashes. Wearing of them is hit and miss; most of the time cadets are mistaken as being Army cadets. Waterproofs – Jacket and trousers, Uniform Scale of Issue Working Group 1 Rank Slides – Green Working belt – Beret Badge Dark – Only version available from stores is staybrite. ½ Lovats Lovat Trousers – Most detachments already have procured these. Stone Shirt – Most Detachments have quite a few of these hidden away. Rank Chevrons – White on Stone Bronze Marine cadet titles – Need to be designed & produced. R.M. Corps Pattern Belt – Marine Cadet Shoulder Flashes (Red on Blue) – To be worn on green woollen jersey. Field Equipment *Roll Matt - £5.43 *Sleeping Bag – *Bivvy Bag - £37.66 Field Hat – Fleece Liner (for combat jacket) - £12.62 Norwegian/Thermal shirt – Webbing & Bergans – Although the olive green of these was issued a few years ago they are now coming to the end of use, many of the clips and zips are damaged. No replacements or first issue to new detachments can take place as there are no more. DPM webbing and bergens should be issued as replacements to all detachments. * Denotes that it would be possible, if costs of individual issue to cadets and staff are deemed unacceptable. One solution may be to issue around 50-60 of each item to all companies enabling them to have Uniform Scale of Issue Working Group 2 enough of each to equip an enlarged troop to deploy into the field with a reasonable standard of equipment. The low standard of field equipment was highlighted at the Marine Cadet Annual camp 2005 – Swynnerton. A number of cadets had to treated for the effects of hypothermia, upon investigation it became apparent that many of the cadets had only got “Civvie” sleeping bags that were of little or no use outdoors. Staff – SNCO’s Staff should be issued the same uniforms and equipment as for cadets except for the badges. They should be as follows: Royal Marine SC Shoulder Flashes (Black on Green) X 3 Royal Marine SC Shoulder Flashes (Red on Blue) – To be worn on green woollen jersey. Staff – Officer’s Officers should be issued as per SNCO’s except where differences occur with Rank/Cap Badges. Dark Beret badge – Lion & Crown + Globe & Laurel, only version available from stores is staybrite.
