Walks Programme 07-08 P.s. I am aware these are only half grades. They will need tweaking but are good as a guide. Christmas (Not Xmas) term: 30th September: Rhosilli -> Port Eynon A 7th October: Neath valley thing B (and I quote from the minutes!) 14th October: Pen-Y-Fan C (my personal favourite walk) 21st October: Usk A(Fabulous views of the Beacons ridges, grab in photographers and drum up support for the Peaks cos no one will be panting!!) 26th -> 28th October: Peaks Weekend B (re-introducing Kinder, and probably redoing the Sunday walk, maybe starting somewhere different, but it was a good ridge) 4th November: Pembrokeshire – Freshwater East B (the classic Pembrokeshire walk) 11th November: Fan Fawr C (maybe replaced with another C when someone has inspiration) 17th - > 18th November: Elan Valley A (important cos it is the only A weekend, not too exposed in foul weather. Reasonably close) 25th November: Llanfrynach -> Pontsticll A(?)(? – can I read my own writing…??) (This is Aaron’s and brand new – the new maps cover this (assuming the AU get the correct ones :-p)) 2nd December: Woebley Castle B (Boring, but only North Gower walk. Good for training First Year Reps) 9th December: Caerphilly Castle A (always a fun one, hopefully reaching there in time for the castle and Christmas market) The idea of a weekend at the end of this term… Not convinced. Weather likely to be inclement even in low areas. Exchange students are likely to be going home. Easter Term: PROVISIONAL 20th January: Gower Backbone B (I like this one. First Year Rep-able again. Can be done with public transport) 27th January: Sugar Loaf A(?) (written on my paper, but means nothing to me!) 3rd February: Chepstow B(?) (Good for signing up for Shropshire apparently) 10th February: Shropshire B (Would have been the one to go if it wasn’t for the accommodation! Doing the Stiperstones hopefully. Liked the river walk last year, except the gate incident… *Grimaces with the memory*) 17th February: Black Mountain / Bannau Sie Gauer C (I like BSG, removing a lot of climbing keeps it authentic yet leaves it open to more people) 24th February: Three Cliffs and Pub Lunch A 28th February -> 2nd March: Rhinogs C (Date a tricky one. Has to be this late due to weather, should be ok as long as organised before the new committee is responsible! Can’t be later cos it will clash with work (for those of you who know not what this is :-p) 9th March: Glamorgan Heritage Coast B (Direction to go with tides. A lovely walk) 16th March: Sponsored Walk C (Moved out of the summer term so as not to clutter it up) – In aid of Central Brecons Mountain Rescue Easter Trip: Offa’s Dyke? Camping in the New Forest? Something camping and/or trekking between sites) Summer Term: PROVISIONAL 27th April: Lord Hereford’s Knob C (Reworked to avoid doubling back) 4th May: Pembrokeshire – St. David’s A/B? (Can’t remember why this is here… Could try leaving earlier and making the walk longer to go further along the headland) 11th May: Ystradfellte B (Excellent walk, usually…) Summer Trip: Lake District C (The home of English (used advisedly, not include Wales, which would be Snowdonia, natch!) walking. Have planned a walk or two in my bored moments!) Hiking Club on Tour: Suggestions! Slovenia – Lake Bled? Midgeland?
