Subject: Brief report on UDISHA and Innovation sankul activities at L.E. College, Morbi
Dear sir,
Season’s greetings!
It has been a privilege being a lead institute of the Innovation sankul Morbi chapter at L.E. College, Morbi.
As you are aware, we have been doing a series of activities under the auspices of UDISHA and Innovation
sankul.
Here is a brief account of on-going activities we have carried out recently.
1. Monthly meetings of the local body of UDISHA club, comprising of representation from all the
departments and PG student were held on 9th March, 10th April, 9th May, and 29th June. Agenda for
the meetings were outlining activities to be carried out, arranging industrial visits, linking of the
students for their final year project, finalizing the IDP for specific students,etc.
2. Campus interviews for final year students were organized during placement season from March 2011
till June 2011. Major industrial houses like L & T, Essar, Adani, Anupam industries, Ferromatik
Milacron, Super Gas, Balkrishna Tyres, Bharat Forge, Savsani Industries, JayPee Cements, etc.
visited the campus for recruitment, and 35 students have been offered placement.

3. The institute organized a career planning programme for final year students, named “Succeeding in
career planning”. Renowned corporate trainer expert from Mumbai (Also a faculty with Ahmedabad
Management Association), Mr. Hiren Vakil conducted 2 full day workshops at the institute for
benefit of our students. Content of the workshop included Resume writing, Preparing for Group
discussion and interview. 126 participants were benefited by the programme.
4. The institute organized an Industrial visit to on 11-03-2011 for the benefit of pre-final year students.
Students of chemical engg. visited "SORENTO GRANITES PVT. LTD.",-Morbi., in two sessions,
from Morning 10:00 to 6:00 in the evening. Prof. D.K. Mehta and Prof. A.D. Kalaria accompanied
the students, and shared their knowledge with industrial personnel also.
5. The institute organized an industrial visit at Deco Ceramics for the benefit of pre-final year students
from Power Electronics, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
Students were largely benefited with the practical exposure to modern technology, latest
machineries, and modern management concepts. Prof. U.L. Makwana and Prof. M.H. Ayalani
accompanied students, and shared their experiences with students.
6. Students of B.E. Sem VIII (Industrial and Production) were sent for industrial projects of 8 to 12
weeks duration in to various industries of repute of Gujarat. Prof. A.V. Gohil, Prof. H.D. Santoki,
and Prof. MJ Vora from the institute went to the industries for the ascertaining progress of the
students, and met their respective guides for the feedback.

7. The institute has taken a thorough initiative in participating in pilot project of “Contributive career
programme towards Personality development”, under GTU. Two faculty members, Prof. U.K.
Chhaya and Prof. D.H. Ahir were deputed to undergo training from Illumine Knowledge Resources

8. One day Induction program for the fresh teachers was organized by L.E. College, Morbi at the
institute on 16/7/2011, involving participation from affiliated institutes under Innovation Sankul
(Morbi chapter). 53 newly recruited faculty members were trained on the areas of personality
development, communication skills, Preparation of an effective lecture etc. The program was jointly
organized with Gujarat Technological University. Prof. D.H. Ahir, Associate Dean of the GTU’s
Rajkot zone (Diploma Program) was the co-ordinator of the program, with Prof. P.C. Vasani,
Principal, as a Patron.

Final year students of the department prepared 60 KV Oil testing kit for application in High-Voltage
laboratory, which can be used for practical and demonstration purposes for the benefit of degree and

Development of Impulse voltage generator:
Final year students of the department developed Impulse Voltage generator, which can be used as a learning
resourse during the laboratory sessions, for the benefit of degree and diploma engineering students. Faculty

 Activities carried out by Mechanical Engineering Department
Model for Electricity Generation by Speed breaker (FINAL YEAR STUDENTS’ PROJECT WORK)
This Project harvests energy from speed breaker by making gear arrangement and using electronic gadgets.
Large amounts of electricity can be generated saving lot of money and if implemented will be very
beneficial for government. When vehicle is in motion it produces various forms of energy like, due to
friction between vehicle’s wheel and road i.e. rough surface Heat energy is Potential energy to Electrical
energy conversion. There is a system to generate power by converting the Potential energy generated by a
vehicle going up on a speed breaker into Kinetic energy. When the vehicle moves over the inclined planes, it
gains height resulting in increase in Potential Energy which is wasted in a conventional rumble strip. When
the breaker comes down, the crank lever fitted to a ratchet-wheel type mechanism (an angular motion
converter) which in turn rotates a geared shaft loaded with recoil springs. The output of this shaft is coupled
to a dynamo to convert Kinetic energy into electricity.

 Activities carried out by Chemical Engineering Department
A campaign leading to awareness about activities that could be carried out, and zeroing in on select activities
under the auspices of Innovation sankul and UDISHA were organized on 2nd May and 4th May, 2011 for
students from Information Technology and Electronics & Communication Engineering. Prof. PC Vasani,
Principal emphasized on necessity of developing structured base of innovative practices carried out by
students in their laboratories, and looking to solve industrial problems using this research base. Prof. Vasani
also encouraged students to make a mark early by innovative practices that would lead to placement. Prof.
DG Panchal and Prof. DK Mehta deliberated on the issues confronting modern day industrial requirements,
the output being given by the academic institutes, and the prevalent gap between this two. Prof. Mehta
deliberated further on types of projects that could be taken by present streams of engineering students.

9. Final year Mechanical Engineering students have developed fully functional low-cost injection
moulding machine, under the guidance of Prof. Chavda & Prof. Jakhariya. Highlighting feature of
the machine was that it was constructed at an all-inclusive cost of Rs. 45000. ‘The Times of India’
took note of this achievement and have published it in edition of 17th July, 2011.
10. Final year students of the institute have been linked with various industries of repute of Gujarat, after
the shodh-yatras organized during summer of current year. Following is an abridged list of students
