NAMI GREATER DES MOINES, INC. STRATEGIC PLAN, 2008 Adopted by the Board 12/8/07 MISSION The mission of NAMI Greater Des Moines, Inc., is to improve the lives of individuals and families living with mental illness through education, advocacy, and support. VISION Our vision for NAMI Greater Des Moines, Inc, is to be a leading voice for consumers, families, and friends living with mental illness in the Greater Des Moines area. We will be a resource in the Greater Des Moines area in the following areas: We will be an important source of information, advocacy, and leadership in mental health issues. We will provide NAMI programs in the Greater Des Moines area. We will provide opportunities for and encourage consumers to take active roles in NAMI. We will serve consumers, family members, and friends without regard to ethnic group, age, or faith community . The mental health community includes providers, community service agencies, government agencies, elected officials, and faith communities. Our vision is to be recognized by the mental health community as an effective resource for education and support for people living with a mental illness and their families and friends. We will advocate for consumers and their families. We will collaborate with the mental health community to achieve our common goals. We will continue to communicate with the mental health community concerning issues effecting consumers and their families. GOALS NAMI Greater Des Moines will work towards achieving the following goals: We will increase membership and visibility by: Utilizing free advertising Providing a visible presence by contacting churches, community groups, school districts, physicians, and hospitals Expanding our participation in appropriate community fairs and conferences We will support consumers and families by: Establishing a hospital exit program Establishing NAMI ON CAMPUS groups Encouraging consumers to train as leaders for NAMI programs Expanding our Faith Outreach Program We will expand participation in NAMI by residents of the Greater Des Moines area by: Expanding our public relations and marketing campaign Actively participating in relevant community forums We will strengthen the program offerings provided by: Seeking more teachers and facilitators Offering NAMI programs: Family to Family Peer to Peer Parents and Teachers As Allies Visions For Tomorrow In Our Own Voice Provider Education Continuing to support and expand ongoing programs and activities Family To Family Monthly meetings VHM Route deliveries of information packets Campus presentations Visions For Tomorrow Faith Outreach We will expand fund raising to provide financial resources to support and expand current programs and activities by: Writing grants Participating in NAMI WALKS Expanding markets for NARSAD products Developing new fundraising programs We will support NAMI state and national initiatives by: Supporting key events National Mental Illness Awareness Week NAMI WALKS Serving on appropriate committees We will develop a financial plan to accurately accommodate: Anticipated income Program costs Administrative expenses Legal requirements Operating costs
