Smethwick, West Midlands, England, July, 1st 2009 – Brooks, renowned for the
legendary handmade leather saddles, presents its Cycle Bags collection at the
Outdoor show in Friedrichshafen (16.-19.7.2009).
The collection of Cycle Bags has been inspired by the old Brooks patent books and
catalogues, featuring a number of designs of bags for bicycles and motorcycles. The
range currently features a few bags and a handlebar basket. The collection is divided
in 3 groups, depending on the type and use of the bicycle:

TRAVEL BAGS
CORNWALL Handlebar Bag
Brooks handlebar bags were featured as far back as our 1890 catalogue. The
‘Cornwall’ has been designed with great attention to both function and style to meet
the needs of today’s cyclist. Made from water-resistant cotton canvas with fine leather
trimmings, it has a series of outstanding details. The waterproof map case is attached
to the top of the bag using six bicycle spokes, which can be replaced with spare spokes
of the desired length. The bag is easily secured to the handlebar with the aluminium
Arkel clamps. Once removed, it can be carried over the shoulder thanks to the
detachable strap.

DEVON Rear Travel Panniers
Highly original bicycle luggage has featured in Brooks catalogues since the end of the
19th century, and we are continuing to innovate today. The ‘Devon’ Rear Travel
Panniers are made from water-resistant cotton canvas with fine leather trimmings, and
have an impressive attention to detail, for example the zips that allow them to open
like a small suitcase. The bag is easily attached to the rear rack using the Arkel ‘CamLock’ hook system.

BARBICAN Messenger Bag
In 1909 and 1910 JB Brooks and his son Wilfred Mason filed two patents related to
improvements in cycling bags and satchels, ensuring a more equal load distribution
and greater stability while riding. Inspired by this, we have developed the ‘Barbican’
Messenger Bag, which features an adjustable shoulder strap that can be easily secured
around the waist. The strap can be worn loose to carry the bag over the shoulder
while walking. Then, for increased comfort while riding, its two ends can be pulled
together around the waist and fixed with the ‘Sam Brown’ clip.

BRICK LANE Roll-Up Panniers
Our Roll-Up Panniers are inspired by the ‘Cyclists’ Hold-all’ that first featured in
Brooks’ 1890 catalogue. As with the original version, each side can be rolled up if not
in use and easily released when needed, which makes them ideal for shopping. On
top of the bag are two elastic straps for carrying additional objects, and the panniers
are ‘self-closing’ thanks to the magnets on the flaps. They are stylish too, made from
water-resistant cotton with leather finishing.

SADDLE BAGS & HOLDALLS
GLENBROOK and MILLBROOK Saddle Holdalls
These two original Brooks Saddle Holdalls were first manufactured in the 1950s. The
stylish ‘Glenbrook’ and ‘Millbrook’ designs have been sympathetically reproduced,
and are made of faux leather with leather trimming.

CHALLENGE and D_SHAPED Saddle Tool Bags
The ‘Challenge’ and ‘D-Shaped’ Tool Bags were designed in 1896 and 1910
respectively. The current models are faithful reproductions made with the same
vegetable-tanned leather used for Brooks saddles.
