Grandma Hatfield’s Mother Family http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=djcheeks&id=I13016 Thadeus Hardwidge Warmoth Sex: M Birth: Virginia 1761 in Kentucky Death: 31 DEC 1847 in Garrard County, Kentucky Note: [CHEEK-S-Full.ged] [george cheek.FTW] [1789848.ged] Thadeus Hardwidge Warmouth was born in 1761 in Kentucky County, Virginia, which in 1792 became the state of Kentucky. It is not known who his parents were or where they came from. I'm not real sure (haven't found any proof positive) that this is our ancestor. Thadeus enlisted in 1778 in Westmoreland County, Virginia and served one year in the Revolutionary War. Thadeus' first marriage was to Winney. Nothing is known about her parents or where and when she was born. I would guess that they were married about 1780 in Kentucky. Their children were Thadeus, Jr., Thomas, Githiam, Henry, John and Mary Anne. It is possibly (and maybe even probable) that John Warmoth is our ancestor. Thadeus' second marriage was to Mary (Polly) Boner on October 13, 1839 in Garrard County, Kentucky. Mary was born in 1803. Nothing is known of her parents or where she was born. There were no children of this marriage. Thadeus died in Garrard County, Kentucky on December 31, 1847 at 86 years old. Winney died about 1830-1839, possibly in Kentucky also. Mary died after 1853, it is unknown where. John Warmoth was the son of Thadeus Hardwidge Warmoth and Winney Warmoth. It is not known where or when John was born, but I would guess that it was about 1785. He married Elizabeth Page in Madison County, Kentucky on February 19, 1805. Nothing is known about Elizabeth's date or place of birth. Her father was John Page. John and Elizabeth's children were John Henry, Sr., George Washington Sr., Thadeus, Polly, Lucinda and Missouri Anne. It is not known where or when John and Elizabeth died. I would guess that John and Elizabeth never left Kentucky, but if they did, they may have gone to Missouri. He is the brother of George Washington Warmoth, Sr. who I have proof is our direct ancestor. John and his wife Sarah Sally Collins had two sons; they were John Henry Warmoth, Jr. and Lafayette W. Warmoth. These two sons’ married sisters....John married Cynthia Ellen Clark and Lafayette married Nancy Jane Clark. The story about the wagon train of 1865 in which the Clarks and Warmouth’s moved west, was written by a descendent of the Clark sisters. He was the son of John Henry Warmoth, Sr. and Sarah Sally Collins Warmoth. He and his brother, John Henry Warmoth, Jr., married sisters. Lafayette (Lafe was his nick-name) married Nancy Jane Clark and John married Cynthia Ellen Clark. Lafe and Nancy had 12 children. They had 6 children at the time they took the wagon train of 1865 moving west. In a newspaper article dated August 20, 1835 about Nancy, it states...that Nancy's father, Orvley Clark went to fight in the Mexican War; he returned home and brought with him young Lafe Warmoth. A short courtship followed and Nancy became Mrs. Lafe Warmoth. They had six children when the southern states decided to secede from the Union and war was declared. Lafe enlisted in the Confederate Army. Just before the Battle of Lexington, Lafe was shot by a Union sniper and was taken to a hospital, where his right arm was amputated at the shoulder. Nancy was notified of his injury and set out in a small buggy with her baby daughter and brother-in-law to bring him home. They were in constant danger during the trip, but Nancy located her husband in the hospital and got him safely home. Even there his life was in peril as a raid by Union soldiers might occur at any moment, or the so-called bushwhackers might appear and ruthlessly kill any man refusing to join their band. Not knowing how long the war would last, the couple and their family immediately began planning to go west to Oregon. The rest of that story is recorded in the wagon train of 1865 section of this family tree, however this article continues after the family arrived in Umatilla County, Oregon. Their eldest daughter was married and living in Idaho and so a few years later, Nancy and he r family moved to a new home near Moscow. Life there was more exciting than in Oregon, for the settlers were in danger from attacks by the Indians. During one raid a group of families was forced to live in the fort for 3 weeks. Six more children were born to Nancy and Lafe during the years they lived in Oregon and Idaho. The climate in Idaho proved to be too severe for Lafe, who had never fully recovered from h s injuries received during the war, so once more they packed up their household, this time going to California. They went to Tehama County, where John and Cynthia Warmoth owned a ranch. They lived in Tehama, then near Sacramento, then Henleyville, then a ranch 3 miles east of Paskenta, where they remained until Lafe passed away in February 1902 at the age of 72. Unable to care for the ranch alone, Nancy sold it to a son-in-law and bought herself a small house in the town of Paskenta, where she remained until she went to Corning in 1925. The last four years of Nancy's life she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H ugh Bankhead. Nancy Jane lived to be 102 years old. She died in August 1935 and is buried in Paskenta, California.
