July Theme: Summer Clubs

The month of July will be a new experience for us all! We will be having Summer Clubs which will prove exciting indeed!

Summer Camps!

It is hard to believe that summer has arrived!

We have had such an incredible first year and have decided to celebrate summer by mixing up our groups and making some fun transitions for the children. During July and

August we will not have the children separated into their small groups, but will instead choose new activities that interest them each week. The children will rotate into

3 groups daily for 30 minutes each. Each day will be a new adventure. There will be nine weeks with a new set of experiences to choose from each week!

Some examples of the summer camps so far are, paper mache, paper making, jump rope club, pirates!, board games, cardboard construction, and many more! Let the fun begin!

Extra Clothes

Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes and shoes that are clearly labeled, as we will be enjoying more sunny days with water as an option especially as we work in our garden.

Sunscreen

We are applying sunscreen in the late morning and/or after nap. Please make sure your child has it on at the beginning of the day.

Teacher Changes

Amelia, also known as Mia started on June

24 th and will join us on our Summer Camp adventure. She has been working at other

CKC preschools and has just recently finished

Cabrillo’s Early Childhood Education program and is now a fully qualified teacher! She is so excited to be here and settling in perfectly!

She will be taking over for Teacher Tauni as she is no longer with CKC. Please stop in and welcome her to our incredible school family.

Marine Biologist Mom

In June we had the opportunity for Chris

Shepard (Jack’s mom) to visit the preschool program.

She came with bones from many sea animals, and pelts and furs from others. The children had a great time exploring the materials and learning from an expert even more about ocean life!

July Newsletter

Dolphins

We have been talking all about the ocean. In particular we have discussed hermit crabs, fish, algae, krill, seals, sharks, whales, orcas, and seashells. The children have also discussed their own experiences at the aquarium.

We have had a great month, met new friends, and the other day one child said that a child

(who was missing that day) would miss our family! We have been tracing and painting

Sea Otters

This month we have been talking about the ocean and what animals and plants live there.

We have continued our discussion and introduction to numbers with numbers 7-10.

Our exciting, yet sad, news of the month is we are saying goodbye to some of our sea otter friends who are moving up (Liam, Chloe,

Kieren, Xavier, and Corey). We are excited for their new adventure in the preschool classroom! We are excited to have our new

Sea Otter friends Ayla and Faiyad.

Some of our favorite activities this month have been sculpting with clay and painting seashells. We got to explore different sizes and shapes of shells and discussed what might live in them. our body shapes!

The children loved singing “The 5 Little

Fishies”, surfing with pretend surfboards, putting seashells in clay, wearing flip-flops, and dancing to the Beach Boys.

Next month we will be doing clubs! This means that the children will get to see all of the JP teachers and participate in fun activities like those seen in traditional summer camps (cooking, paper mache, puppet shows, and sports clubs)!

Sting Rays

We have been learning the sounds of the letters, and have discussed many different creatures that live in the ocean. We loved learning about the sea animals, and talking about our own experiences at the ocean. I think our favorite sea creatures were the sharks and whales! We all love to count and have been working on learning our numbers

1-10.

Our fun and exciting news for the month is that we got to make sushi with our friends in the sea horse group! It was a bit challenging and not all of us were sure if we liked eating

it, but we all had fun making it!

Some of our favorite activities of the month included easel painting using droppers instead of brushes, creating 3D aquariums, exploring the ocean using our imaginations as

CKC Opal Cliffs

July Newsletter we built sandcastles out of blocks and had a beach day in our classroom!

Seahorses

We have spent the month exploring not only the ocean, but also one of our 5 senses, taste.

We have had regular taste testing experiments that have included tasting seaweed, vinegar chips, caramel chips and trying to guess what they were! We have learned some of our colors, along with learning to count to 20 in Spanish! We have learned a lot of exciting things about ocean animals and the habitats that they live in.

Our exciting news for the month is that we made Sushi with our friends in the Sting Ray group! We all enjoyed making it, but were not all sure about eating it!

Favorite activities of the month included taste-testing foods, learning about sharks and different types of fish. We loved reading about Rainbow fish and his adventures, which

We have been preparing for Kindergarten by reviewing our ABC’s and 123’s and by playing

Group games to practice taking turns and good sportsmanship.

Our Jellyfish friends Jolie, Owen, Zoe, Arianna,

Jack, Kai, Olivia, Brodie and Gabriel graduated!

They will all be going to Kindergarten in the fall. We are so excited for them to grow and we will miss them so much!

The Jellyfish have been learning about the ocean and doing lots of fun exploration, art, and sensory activities.

During July and August we will be changing it up and having summer clubs. The children will be able to choose a variety of activities to choose from including: potion making, clay, water play, castle building, and more! led to creating our own rainbow fish. As always we loved any and all free painting time.

Sea Turtles

We have worked on the letters W, X, Y, AND Z.

We have learned about many animals and creatures in the ocean. Our Sea Turtle friends,

Oreen, Mina, Angel, and Maverick will be moving on to Kindergarten. We are sad to see them leave, but know that they will have a great time at their new schools.

The favorite thing the Sea Turtles did during the month of Ocean learning was learning all about whales!

In July we will have lots of fun summer camps to pick from including, dance, pirates, music, gardening, cooking, and many more!
