COMMUNICATION
The proximity of Kakatiya group of working mines made the KTK-3 Longwall
mine well connected by an all weather asphalt road to the Warangal, the
district headquarters, is located about 68 km towards southwest of
Bhupalpalli. The Parkal - Mahadevpur PWD road is passing on the south
eastern side. The nearest railhead is Jammikunta on Kazipet - Balharsha
section of South Central railway, which is about 45-km southwest of
Bhupalpalli, as crow flies. The proposed KTK-3 Longwall Mine is at a
distance of 87 Km. from Ramagundam coal field, which is one of the
extensively developed mining areas of SCCL.

GEOLOGY AND STRUCTURE OF KTK – 3 INCLINE BLOCK
KTK-3 Longwall Mine is located in North Western part of Mulug Coal belt covering an
area of about 3.5 Sq.Km and it is carved out from the part of two blocks namely
Bhupalpalli Block –I and Bhupalpalli Shaft Block –I . It is a near rectangular block
with an average strike length of 1.5 Km and about 1.8 Km along the dip. The block is
mostly the Barakar formations and the exposures are very limited.
The bore hole density of the mine is 16 No/Sq.KM at Bhupalpalli Block –I area and
11.5 No/Sq.KM at Bhupalpalli shaft Block –I area and the overall bore hole density of
the mine comes around 13.75 No/Sq.KM.
Structure:
KTK-3 Longwall Mine is located in north central part of Mulug Coal belt covering an
area of about 3.5 Sq.Km. It is a near rectangular block with a strike length of 4.5 Km
and is having an average width of about 0.85 Km along the dip. The block is mostly
the Kamthi formations and Barren measures. These formations are covered by soil
and scanty exposures of above formations. The general trend of the bed in this block
varies from NNW-SSE with corresponding North-Easterly dip and gradient varying
from 1in 3.7 to 6.
Faults:
The KTK-3 Longwall Mine area is moderately disturbed which includes four
boundary faults and two faults delineated within the block area ranging in throw from
5m. to 350+ m.

DESCRIPTION OF COAL SEAMS
At KTK-3 Longwall Mine area coal seams occur in the Barakar formation. Out of the
16 coal horizons encountered in this block, only twelve main coal horizons (IB, IA, IA
(TOP), IA (Bottom), I,II (TOP), II (Bottom), IIIB, IIIA, III, IVA,IV and V are persistent.
Out of these twelve coal horizons I, II (Bottom) , III & IV seams have attained
workable thickness of more than 1.5 m throughout the block and remaining seams
are inconsistent in thickness. Hence, the seams are not considered for extraction.

METHOD OF WORK
Longwall method is considered suitable for extraction of I, II (Bot.), III and IV seams
in this project due to the extent of property without faults except at the boundaries of
the block. However presence of undisturbed property planned for Longwall shall
further be confirmed by drilling additional number of exploratory boreholes towards
dip side. Three Road headers are provided for gate roads development. Three SDLs
would operate in conjunction with the RHs in gate road development for inter
connections and Main Trunks development.
9.1 Mode of entry
Initially, two tunnels are proposed from surface to No. III seam for coal transport,
conveyance for men, haulage and for ventilation. Further two additional Punch
entries are driven from the open excavation of KTK OCP Quarry towards north
boundary of quarry floor (dip side) through II seam.
9.2 Coal Transport
coal conveyance arrangement for II seam & I seam is made through belt conveyors
after making OB Ramp from surface to Punch entry floor . Three Inter seam tunnels
each are driven from II seam to I seam & III seam to IV seam to work in I seam and
IV seam. Coal from I seam is transferred to II seam trunk belt through inter seam
The Singareni Collieries Company Limited
tunnel and coal from IV seam is transferred to surface through III seam trunk belt
conveyor.
9.3 Ventilation
There are five entries in all for ventilation i.e. two inclines from surface to III seam as
intake air ways, Two Punch entries from KTK OC Quarry as Intake & return air ways
and one return air shaft driven from the KTK OCP II seam quarry floor to III seam
after completion of OC excavation.
10 PRODUCTION CAPACITY
The production capacity of the project will be about 1.50 Million tonnes per year. To
achieve this One Longwall unit along with three Road headers and 3 Nos of SDLs
are envisaged.
11 LIFE OF PROJECT
The life of the project will be around 11 years including construction period at a
production rate of 1.50 Mt per annum.
