SHREWSBURY HILLWALKING CLUB
AGM REPORT.
The following officers and committee members were elected for 2011/12:
Chairman- Mike Pemberton
Vice-chairman -Dave Peters
Secretary- Colin Carson
Treasurer-Jane Williams
Committee-John Ellerslie; Geraldine Lane; Bill Fowler; Sue Hoult.
It was agreed by those present to accept a proposal by the outgoing treasurer to
increase membership fees by 50 pence per person (£8.00 single £11.00 joint) this due
to the fact that fees have been held since 2006 in which time insurance costs have
risen substantially along with Ramblers Association fee. This increase will give a
break-even point if current membership is maintained and the 2012 estimated increase
in these amounts is correct. It will leave a shortfall regarding walks programme
production and distribution (postage costs) plus the possibility of more regular
newsletters. To this end new chairman to investigate members feelings and wishes
regarding electronic communication, this would mean receiving e-newsletters along
with electronic walks programmes to members who have this facility and are in
agreement.
FROM THE ELECTRIC CHAIR
After some three and a half years we thank Bill for his efforts as chair and welcome
Jane Williams as treasurer allowing me to takeover the role as Chair.
Sue Hoult joins the committee to replace Bob Charlesworth who currently has
replaced his boots for brushes as he continues his art degree at Aberystwyth
University, he hopes to be back with us mid 2012 so thanks to Bob for his past efforts.
FORTHCOMING EVENTS.
Once again Geraldine has arranged our annual dinner. The venue is Cromwells on
Dogpole in Shrewsbury on Wednesday 25th January 7:30pm to pre-order from set

A winter weekend has been booked at www.pinecroft.co.uk in the Beech Lodge from
10th February until 13th February, three nights to cost £45.00 per person to include the
usual basic communal food. Limited places available contact Mike Pemberton those
who are already aware send £10.00 deposit to Jane Williams (Treasurer).
Many of you are probably not aware that the club hold a Snowdonia Society card that
entitles the holder to a 20% discount at Cotswold Outdoor. In the past this involved
travelling out of the County to take advantage, but now we have a local branch in
Shrewsbury and you find anything in store that you would like to purchase contact
Colin Carson to borrow the card then return.
With regard to the AGM report I now pose these questions to you all (1) those of you
I have email addresses of, are you happy to receive news more regularly in this way.
Those of you that I do not have an email address for will receive this by post, so I ask
you to send me your preferred email address if you wish to go along with this system.
Otherwise you may only get up two newsletters (with walks programmes) along with
members who do not have this facility. But would look to find a cost effective way to
send to those that are not able to participate (do not wish to discriminate).
(2) Do you want to receive the walks programmes as an email attachment In this way
we can communicate any changes due to unforeseen circumstances ie venue, time,
walk leader, grade. Or do you want to retain having a laminated or non- laminated
copy. Also AGM notification can be sent as per constitution. If every one received
three mailings per year the cost would be £47.52. Resulting in a further increase of
£1.00 per member to (£9.00 and £12.00). These are just ideas to reduce the risk of
having to increase further membership fees in 2013. So in response to these proposals
those of you able to do so send your answers to mike.pem@talk21.com otherwise
send to the Jane Williams (Treasurer) along with your 2012 membership fee.
