How are these two mysteries connected? How is God’s mystery revealed to us humans? Which two evangelists wrote Infancy Narratives? What was the point of including them in their gospels? Explain how the Infancy Narratives fit in with the kerygma. What is it called when we look at the evangelists as editors who compiled their material in a certain way? Explain how we can connect the material of each Infancy Narrative to its writer’s audience. Be able to compare the gospel portraits of Jesus, and some significant details that we get in each of the two Infancy Narratives (matching section?). You may wish to look over the quiz on these Infancy Narratives. Explain the meaning of baptism and some of the symbolism associated with it (where do the symbols come from?). How does Baptism fit into the Catholic Church’s program of Initiation? Compare the baptism that John gives to Jesus’ gift of baptism. Be able to LIST the three main symbolic images of Jesus’ Baptism by John. Know what each of these symbols mean. Discuss some differences between the gospel accounts of Jesus’ Baptism. How do we know that Jesus was likely actually baptized even though there are differences in the stories? Explain some of the theories as to why Jesus would have been baptized. Name the two groups of people that Jesus is compared to in the story of His Temptation. How are we as readers supposed to pick up on these two comparisons (what details clue us in…)? Be familiar with the qualities that Jesus possessed as a good teacher. Perhaps also be familiar with some examples of each from the Bible. Define a parable (Hint: there are three (3) main parts of the definition…). Why are they effective teaching tools? Explain what the Kingdom of God is (remember it has 2 phases or “states”). Explain our understanding of Miracles. Be able to LIST the 4 categories of Jesus’ miracles. Explain the meaning behind the 2 translations of the word “miracle” (know the two Greek words). Discuss some of the ways that Jesus threatened religious leaders, and some of the ways that we see his obedience to the Father.
