Introduction/Purpose:
Today you will:
 Review your ABC activity & provide more practice with ABCs & Function of
Behavior with video vignettes
 Start looking at effective interventions given the function of behavior
 Emphasize that this series is ultimately about linking to more effective
development of interventions. Understanding ABC will be used to guide
intervention selection for those students exhibiting consistent challenging
behavior.
Information/Review:
 Why students behave the way they do? Understanding Chronic Misbehavior
 Review functions and ABC’s
 Discuss Jimi experiences on slide 4-Identify the function of behavior
Guided Practice:
Slide 5
 View video vignette and complete worksheet provided
 Fill in the ABC statements for the first half & second half of the vignette –
noticing what Tracy is learning in the video
 Use that information to Fill in the Brief Behavioral Assessment-ABC at the
bottom of the page
 Also fill out the office discipline referral form – using the ABC information to
identify the Possible Motivation
Practice:
Divide into groups of 3-4
Share the student data that you collected & explain your summary statement
Identify the Possible Motivation on the referral form provided & complete the Brief
Behavioral Assessment-ABC form
Be prepared to present to the group, as 1 or 2 of you may be asked to present to the
entire staff on a case from your group
Task:
Over the next 2 weeks…
 Complete the provided worksheet to track 5 ABC sequences for a single student
that is engaging in recurring problem behavior
