2013 AAPS New Investigator Grant in Pharmacokinetics,
Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Metabolism
The Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Metabolism Section of AAPS biennially sponsors a grant
to support an academic scientist during the early stages of his/her career. The award is a one-time grant of
$10,000 to support the research efforts of this outstanding individual who is engaged in carrying out research in
pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and drug metabolism.
Nominees must demonstrate a commitment to conduct research in the fields of pharmacokinetics,
pharmacodynamics, and/or drug metabolism. This research may include animal or human experimental studies
or involve in vivo or in vitro experimental studies or involve in vivo or in vitro experimental designs. The
research should be innovative and encompass a new frontier of science. The nominee must have the potential
for outstanding achievement in research in one these areas as well as the potential to be a future, prominent
leader in pharmaceutical education and research. Nominees must have less than four years of academic
experience and less than seven years of total postdoctoral experience. The award is open to individuals
conducting their research in a university setting or other nonprofit environment. There are no geographical
limitations on who may receive this award and it is expected that the recipient will attend the annual meeting to
receive the award.
Nomination Requirements
1. The completed nomination form.
2. The nominee's current curriculum vitae.
3. A letter of nomination from the Dean, Department Chair, or Division Director of the nominee to address
the award criteria.
4. A statement from the nominee (1,500 words or less) highlighting research accomplishments, short and long
term research plans, and the significance of his/her program plans in contributing to the advancement of
pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and drug metabolism.
5. Nominations and all supporting materials must be sent as a single pdf file to awards@aaps.org by May 13,
2013. A single Microsoft Word file will be acceptable if pdf capability is not available. The award title
must be shown in the subject line of the email. MAILED OR FAXED NOMINATIONS WILL NOT
BE ACCEPTED.
Selection Procedures
The nomination materials are forwarded to a selection committee comprised of representatives of the AAPS
Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Metabolism Section and the Clinical Pharmacology and
Translational Research Section. The award consists of $10,000* and a certificate, both of which will be
presented to the recipient at the 2013 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 10-14, in San Antonio,
and reimbursed travel expenses (maximum $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international) to be paid following the
meeting.
*Note: All funds must be provided to the researcher for research expenditures. None of the money may be
used for university overhead, indirect, or administrative costs.
