Sing & play Genki English song “What’s Your Name?” Important Notes to mention during class: Use mouth to show students pronunciation; ie use mouth actively to help Japanese kids see how “the” is actually pronounced with tongue. Get into habit of using your mouth! Picking your name is at your discretion. You may want to be Mr. Adams or simply Mike. Find what you want to be called and stick to it. The kids/students in Japan couldn’t care less what you’re called just pick something. Age – if it’s sensitive for you just say you’re 18. Then if they push just keep at it, make it a joke of sorts to avoid the whole issue. 18 sai desu. Hontou??? Hontou ni! Shushin- stick to simplicity. You may be Mongolian American who grew up in Tahiti but recently moved to London. 6 year olds think 10kms is far away so avoid lengthy explanations. Just say you’re from NY. Keep the complicated stuff for adults! Following pages are not handouts, are strictly for cutout or just reference to use on a white/chalkboard. Shuumi wa _______________ desu.
