Figure out which safety rules the students break in the following scenario. Write your
answers in the spaces provided.
Maria and Jack are conducting an experiment in which they used acids and bases. Before putting
on his safety goggles, Jack measures out a quantity of an acid in one beaker and a quantity of a
base in another beaker. Maria smells the contents of the two beakers and notices that a strand of
her long hair has fallen into one of the beakers. She dries her hair on a paper towel. Next, the two
students mix the contents of the beakers together without reading the instructions. When the
chemicals start to react, Jack and Maria pour the contents of the beaker down the sink drain and
return to their desks.
