The Kite Runner General Response The Kite Runner was truly a spectacular book which has affected me in various ways. Ethics and morals should take precedence over selfishness and how loyalty only played a small part on Ali and Hassan’s life. I soon realized Baba may have only been loyal to Ali because Hassan was really his flesh and blood. I often remind myself how giving is better than receiving and how my grandmother instilled this in me. The novel brought this to my attention when Baba was always giving and when it was his time to receive, such as the food stamps, he would not accept them. After reading the novel, Afghanistan at one point, was similar to America. There were the rich, poor, educated, and uneducated. However, in America everyone is allowed education and in Afghanistan only the upper class was allowed an education. In America, it is acceptable to talk to the opposite gender at any time, and in Afghanistan, it is looked down upon. This was reflected when Amir was trying to talk to Soraya at the flea market when General Taheri (her father) walked up and Soraya’s color dropped from her face when she saw him. The General reminded him decent boy’s needed to be reminded and that he was among peers. What happens abroad will greatly shape my reaction to what happens by the reading of someone’s real life. The media is a great resource that we rely on most of the time, but it can be biased or swayed by the opinions of the media source. When you can get the full account from an individual who has lived and breathed the ordeal, there is a connection with that person as if you were experiencing their trials and tribulations with them.
