Owens Latin 1 Test 3 Study Checklist VOCABULARY For the vocabulary and etymology sections, study the words introduced since the last test. A list of these words have been posted on the class webpage. Review previously learned vocabulary for the other sections of the test. NOUNS Be able to decline a neuter second declension noun and be able to translate a neuter noun in the context of a sentence. Be able to recognize and translate the vocative case. Know the exceptions to vocative case formation (“-us” nouns have a vocative singular in “–e.” “-ius” nouns have a vocative singular in “–i.") Review previously learned noun forms. ADJECTIVES Know how adjectives decline. Know the adjective golden rule (agrees with its noun in gender, number and case BUT not necessarily in ending). Be able to make a noun agree with a noun and be able to translate in the context of a sentence. The same rule that pertains to vocative nouns applies to masculine adjectives. VERBS Be able to conjugate the verb sum, esse, fui, futurus in the present tense. Review previously learned verb forms (present tense of 1st and 2nd conjugations) and the formation of the imperative SYNTAX Know what apposition is and be able to translate in context. Review what a predicate nominative is and be able to translate in context. READINGS Review the Pandora passage as well as the Romulus and Remus passages. Be able to answer syntax questions based on these. CULTURE Myth of Pandora: who was she (first woman), what did she do (open the box, let evils out), to whom was she given (Epimetheus) and who tried to warn him (Prometheus). Early lives of Romulus and Remus: Where were they born (Alba Longa), who was their mother (Rhea Silvia), political conflicts that led to their attempted murder (Numitor Vs. Amulius), and who helped them (she-wolf, Faustulus).
