First leg: Cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh through pedal for Scotland, 8 September 2013 Second leg: Lahore Cycle Challenge, February 2014 There is an option to take part in the Pedal for Scotland leg only. Funds raised will support Yorkhill Children’s Charity, the only charity that supports the whole of Yorkhill Hospital as well as related paediatric and obstetric services throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC). Yorkhill Children’s Charity funds innovative medical equipment, improvements in child and family facilities, paediatric research and training and other projects and service enhancements invaluable to the treatment, care, physical and mental wellbeing of sick children and babies and their families from throughout Scotland and beyond. With the money you raise, we will be able to continue providing all the ‘extra’ services and medical equipment for Yorkhill Hospital, which would otherwise not be available. This will provide an opportunity to challenge yourself and raise vital funds for Yorkhill Children’s Charity, whilst at the same time allowing you to experience true Scottish culture and hospitality at its best. Commonwealth Games host city, Glasgow, offers a fashionable West End with quaint and quirky boutiques, splendid Gothic buildings such as the University of Glasgow, and places of interest including the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Riverside Museum. Glasgow's £75 million Science Centre features Scotland's first IMAX cinema with an 80ft by 60ft screen, as well as state-of-the-art facilities for youngsters to learn about science and technology through fun exhibits, science shows, workshops and talks. When it is sunny, Glasgow has several beautiful parks to stroll in; and if the weather lets you down, shelter can be found in the glorious Kibble Palace in the Botanic Gardens! You will also have an unparalleled opportunity to observe the capital city Edinburgh, the birth place of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, from handlebar level. Marvel at the splendour of the magnificent Edinburgh Castle wherever you are in the city; this great medieval fortress is perched on ancient volcanic rock and can be seen for miles around. Tucked away behind Waverley Station, the Edinburgh Dungeon is a gruesome entertainment venue that allows visitors to experience the murkier side of Scottish history. The famous Edinburgh Zoo also offers the world-famous Penguin Parade, and more recently- pandas! It is home to over one thousand rare and endangered animals and the newly-constructed African plains afford a fantastic view of the historical city. Glasgow to Edinburgh 3 Second Leg: Lahore Cycle Challenge, February 2014 40 miles over two days of cycling Lahore is at the heart of Pakistan, and is the second largest city in the country. It is famous for its spectacular architecture, eye catching gardens, remarkable weather, and outstanding cuisine. If you’re looking for an exciting challenge that will test your endurance and allow you to raise funds for Yorkhill Children’s Charity, then look no further than our Lahore Cycle Challenge. The Lahore Cycle Challenge is an amazing opportunity to experience the real Pakistan and interact with the locals at handlebar level by pedalling the rural back roads. With an average of 20 miles of cycling a day, this challenge requires a good level of fitness and the motivation to ensure you reach the end goal. Along with the Cycle Challenge, the journey provides the perfect opportunity to observe some of Lahore’s famous tourist attractions. This includes the Mughal masterpiece Shahi Quila, also known as the Royal Fort, which is famous for its stunning mirror work. Some other famous sites within the fort include the Sheesh Mahal, Alamgiri Gate, and the luscious Shalimar gardens, built by the Mughal emperor and used as the royal pleasure garden from the 16th to the 19th century. The Badshahi Masjid is also one of Lahore’s best known landmarks, and is capable of accommodating more than 55,000 worshippers at a time. In addition to the cycle challenge in Lahore, there will also be the opportunity to visit and experience life for children in Lahore. Yorkhill Children’s Charity (YCC) is the beneficiary charity and is responsible for administering this challenge. The charity is not liable for any aspects of the trip such as flights, itinerary, personal belongings, insurance, medical restrictions, expenses or any theft, accident or illness during or as a result of the challenge. Participants enter at their own risk. 1. All Registration Fees are non-refundable and must be paid directly to Yorkhill Children’s Charity (YCC) at the time of your booking. 2. At least 80% of the minimum sponsorship must be submitted to the charity by 1st November 2013. If you fail to pay 80% of the minimum sponsorship in full, on time, your place on the trip will no longer be guaranteed. YCC will be entitled to keep the Registration Fee paid or due at that date. 3. If you intend to cancel or withdraw you must notify YCC in writing of your intent at the earliest point of notification. 4. If you cancel the trip after 1st November 2013 you will still be liable for all event costs and the minimum sponsorship amount. If you cancel due to medical reasons, you should contact your insurance provider. 5. Clients taking their own equipment including a bike on the trip are responsible for any charges for transportation levied by the airline including baggage excess. 6. Flight delays - YCC is not responsible for any delays or cancellations and is not in a position to offer assistance. Flights are booked directly through Kohli Travel (Glasgow). 7. Itinerary – YCC is not responsible for any aspect of the itinerary in Lahore. The organising committee led by Hanzala Malik MSP is responsible for the itinerary in Lahore and reserve the right to make changes to planned days before and after participant booking confirmation. Medical Restrictions For this cycle you must be at least 18 years old and medically fit to take part in this challenge. If you are aged 60 years of age, or over, or if you have any medical condition that could be adversely affected by exercise, particularly a heart condition or asthma, you must contact your GP for medical advice before taking part in this challenge. Insurance You are wholly responsible for arranging your own private travel insurance and if you join the tour without adequate insurance you may be not permitted to continue. Adequate travel insurance must protect you for the duration of the tour in respect of at least medical expenses, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment. Yorkhill Children’s Charity cannot be held liable for any injury, illness or death injury occurred during or as a result of this challenge or any part of the entire trip.
