Our school needs your help! We hope everyone has a great week. See you around campus! GO DEMONS! Jean Anne and Scott Semke This week Pam Fish is our volunteer in the spotlight. Pam is a graphic artist by profession and she very generously shares her time and talent with Reynolds High School. Pam is chairperson of the Arts Magnet committee and also manages our PTSA website. Pam is creative, fast and very easy to work with! So far this year for RJR, Pam has: 1. created a new Legacy Campaign logo and designed new Legacy materials. Designed the ”Art Amid the Pines” logo and spearheaded the event with the Winston-Salem Symphony; 2. created the “Cooking Amid the Pines” logo and cookbook cover; 3. updated the PTSA website and created senior section on PTSA website for up-to-date news for seniors and parents; 4. began work securing other Arts Magnet events for our students to enjoy; 5. and more! Pam’s daughter, senior Avery Wells, definitely got the art gene and is very talented as well. Avery went to Governor’s School for art and is currently doing an internship at Reynolda House. The PTSA thanks Pam for sharing her talent so freely and touching so many aspects of RJR! Check out Pam’s other work on her website: fishoriginals.com. The RJR Peer Tutoring Program is an opportunity for the student community to come together to further academic success here at Reynolds Highh School. Qualified RJR students who have been approved to be Peer tutors will volunteer to aid teachers during their tutoring sessions in reaching all of their learners. At this time, the RJR Peer Tutoring Program is partnered with Spanish, Social Studies, Algebra 1 and Geometry. To find out more information about these tutoring opportunities, contact your child's Spanish, Social Studies, Algebra 1 or Geometry teacher or e-mail Ms. Apel at mfapel@wsfcs.k12.nc.us . Your gift makes a difference…and every gift counts! Last week, the R.J. Reynolds community was so fortunate to have the WinstonSalem Symphony perform, not only for our students, but also for the community. The entire day captured just what our school and the Legacy Campaign is all about…the heart, mind, body and soul of our students! Legacy donations support our academic, athletic and arts programs by nriching the lives of our students each and every day. Evette Clemmons, dance teacher, explains how the Legacy Campaign has benefitted just one of our many arts magnet programs: “The Legacy Campaign allows the dance department to have professional dance productions from costuming, to lighting, and our fabulous marley dance floor. We are one of the few schools that owns its own marley dance floor. The Legacy Campaign also enables dance costumes and needed materials to be affordable for all students taking dance.” That’s exactly what your Legacy dollars do – they allow enrichment programs and additional resources to be available and affordable to ALL RJR students! $84,943 We are so excited to say that Legacy contributions are now at and climbing! We WILL reach our $100,000 goal, but ONLY with YOUR help! Please keep those donations rolling in! Homecoming is NEXT FRIDAY, October 14th, so donate TODAY to reserve your spot at the awesome Homecoming Tailgate party!! You won’t want to miss it! If you have any questions or need additional Legacy information, please email us at lkcarter@triad.rr.com. Lisa and Greg Carter Spotlight on this week’s Corporate Legacy Game Sponsor…. Reynolds High School Orchestra program. To learn more about and apply for the program, go to the WSFC/Reynolds/Staff/ Rehder web page, www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us. The RJR Civic Orchestra will meet on Thursday nights in the Judy Voss Jones Arts Building, room 601, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. If you need to use a school cello or bass for the rehearsal(s), you may use one of the school instruments. For the first concert, we will be performing the Carmen Suite no. 2 by Bizet, Bach’s Fugue in gm, Hungarian Dance no. 5 by Brahms, Verdi’s Triumphal March from Aida, Rhosymedre by Vaughn-Williams, and March Slave by Tschaikowsky. Once a musician is accepted into the orchestra, each musician will be asked to sign a policy agreement and make a contribution to the orchestra per concert series to offset expenses and support the R.J. Reynolds Orchestra program. Each concert series will consist of 8-10 rehearsals and a concert for only around $10 per rehearsal/concert. Mrs. Rehder will conduct the orchestra, but several other guest conductors will help out when Mrs. Rehder is not available. This is not an orchestra class. We will work in a professional and friendly manner as a rehearsing/performing orchestra: NO STRESS! Fill out the RJR Civic Orchestra registration form to get started. There is no obligation until you have been accepted into the orchestra, paid the fees, and agreed to the orchestra policies.
