Proposal Application Form WRAP funded consumer electronic research Project Reference MDD030 Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of environmental issues in their purchasing decisions, which has been reflected by the introduction of ‘Eco’ products by major brands. In 2008 WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) carried out consumer attitudes research into recycled content and found that participants responded positively to recycled materials and also expressed admiration for brands that use it in their products. This report can be viewed on WRAP’s web page www.wrap.org.uk/eeeresearch WRAP now aims to test these attitudes at the point of purchase, partnered by a retail host, and are offering to cover costs for a major UK electrical retailer to host a series of in-store trials (arranged with WRAP) to confirm whether consumers are more likely to buy goods with recycled materials when presented with a broadly equivalent alternative, and to assess their current attitudes. Establishing consumers’ behaviour in the evolving market of sustainable products will enable WRAP to share valuable information to benefit the electronics retail sector and consumers. The trials should be completed by March 2010. Please complete and sign the following and return to WRAP to arrive by Friday 16 October 2009. 1 Contact Details Lead contact Position Company Phone Email Address 2 Briefly outline your company, main products and consumer sector(s) 3 List proposed stores for trials, their branch details and range of Consumer Electronics (additional information would be useful) 4 Proposed timescale for delivering the trials for each store (to be complete by March 2010) 5 Contacts for arranging the in-store trials (please give contacts for each store manager etc) 6 Proposed products with recycled material to include in the trials (if appropriate) and their sales volumes 7 Proposed budget to host the in-store trial(s). Signed: (authorised on behalf of company) WRAP have prepared a questionnaire with a market research consultant to be carried out with consumers at point of purchase, and have identified products with recycled content which may be included in the store trials. WRAP intends to place products with recycled material in-store for the trials (such as two vacuum cleaners, a printer and a mobile phone with recycled plastic) and display marketing information stating the product contains recycled plastic to inform consumers. WRAP will select one retailer to work with to deliver the trials and inform applicants of the outcome by 30 October. Selection criteria will be the number of stores and their footfall, number of products with recycled content and their sales volumes and experience of arranging similar in-store trials.
