Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an experience-based approach to learning in spiritual care which combines the
practice of spiritual care giving with qualified supervision and group reflection. This dynamic and integrative education
model assists persons in achieving their full potential in the practice of spiritual care.
The Niagara Health System (NHS) http://www.niagarahealth.on.ca/ is a multi-site hospital amalgamation comprised of
six sites serving 434,000 residents across the 12 municipalities making up the Regional Municipality of Niagara. The NHS
provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinics/services at six sites, including Acute Care, Surgical Care,
Emergency and Urgent Care, Kidney Care, Cardiac Care, Complex Care, Mental Health and Addiction, Long Term Care
and Cancer Care. The CPE program’s home site is the new St Catharines facility, a 399 bed hospital that opened its doors
for service in March 2013. The NHS is an accredited teaching site with CASC.
The NHS 3-unit residency provides opportunity for learners to complete their advanced level CASC education.
The program:
 is integrated with NHS inter-professional practice
 provides diverse clinical opportunities
 is affiliated with Waterloo Lutheran Seminary / Wilfrid Laurier University
 is outcome-oriented with special attention to
o preparation for CASC certification
o College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario practice standards
o vocational guidance

Applicants must have at least one unit of SPE and be eligible for entrance to CASC Advanced education by the mid-point
of the program’s first unit. Learners will receive a stipend.
