IOP Publishing and Chinese Academy of Sciences announce archiving deal
Non-profit scientific publisher Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing has announced a new deal with
the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Under the deal, researchers from CAS will now be able to
access nearly 140 years of scientific research.

The UK's National Archives to pilot web archiving model for local authorities
The National Archives, the official archive of the UK government, will pilot a web archiving model
for local authorities to ensure that important online information is preserved for future generations.
The pilot will run in seven local authority archives - covering more than 20 local authorities.

Australian National University launches free research database
The Australian National University has reportedly launched a new free online database that allows
anyone with an Internet connection to read the latest scholarly work. The new Digital Collections
facility makes around 400 theses, almost 4,000 research papers and over 2,000 images freely
accessible to all.

Nature Publishing Group expands OA publishing in China
Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group (NPG) has announced an expansion in open access
publishing in China. Under the initiative, NPG will publish two open access journals - International

American developmental psychologist named 2011 recipient of Wiley Prize in Psychology

Macmillan to pay £11.2 million over African deals
Macmillan Publishers Ltd has agreed a civil recovery order of £11.2 million, regarding historic
conduct by its education business in Africa. The move comes after the company, in March 2010,
referred to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) concerns over payments made by part of its education
business, Macmillan Education, in an unsuccessful bid to secure a contract in Southern Sudan.

ACS President offers congressional testimony on NSF merit review
ACS President Dr. Nancy B. Jackson testified before the House Science, Space and Technology
Subcommittee on Research and Science Education on July 26 about the effectiveness of the merit

proposals to fund. The purpose of the hearing was to examine ways to streamline the process of
evaluating the tens of thousands of grant applications submitted every year.

Platts expands offering of benchmark price references for plastics polymers
Energy and metals information provider Platts has expanded its suite of petrochemical price
references to include weekly assessments of five polymers imported into Brazil and key to the
