WHITING RECYCLING PROGRAM

YARDWASTE: Yard bag pick-up for the entire City of Whiting will be conducted weekly. Grass and
leaves to be picked up, free of garbage and litter, must be placed in the alley in biodegradable yard bags.
Yard bags of grass and leaves will be collected by a truck. Plastic garbage bags may not be used as an
alternative to biodegradable yard bags. Plastic garbage bags don't compost and at times are difficult to
distinguish from garbage. Loose piles of unbagged grass or leaves will not be picked up by the City.
Residents placing loose piles of grass or leaves in the alley, garbage or recycling carts will be notified.
Whiting received the Waste and Recycling News Green City Award in 2012 and 2012 IACT Green Community Award.
