Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist A. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. The Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist shall have the qualifications of a teacher as prescribed by the State Department of Education. 2. The Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist shall have a minimum of three years as a successful classroom teacher and score in the top level of the district evaluation system. 3. Ability to analyze and present educational data. 4. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills 5. Must be fluent in Spanish with an understanding of the structure of its language. 6. The Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist shall have attended the required district dyslexia training. B. APPOINTMENT: The Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist shall be appointed by the building principal. C. COORDINATES SERVICES: District Dyslexia Program Director D. JOB PERFORMANCE STATEMENTS: The duties of the Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist shall include the following responsibilities: 1. Responsibilities Instructional Management a. Work collaboratively with the campus administrator to provide multisensory intervention to students with dyslexia and Tier students struggling to read. b. Attend 504 meetings, annual meetings, and ARDS to interpret assessment data and participate in the collaborative discussions about student academic needs. c. Administer formal dyslexia assessments as assigned d. Maintain data-based documentation for the continuous monitoring of student performance and progress during interventions. e. Attend professional development sessions utilizing the information for the improvement of the program f. Provide accurate reports as requested by the district. g. Maintain high level of communication with District Dyslexia Program Director for assignment details and changes 2. School/Organizational Climate a. Works with Campus Principal and Dyslexia Specialist in coordination of student groups and work environment. b. Works harmoniously with all administrative and teaching personnel. c. Is aware of and adheres to the strict guidelines pertaining to District Dyslexia Policy and the state Dyslexia Handbook. d. Promotes professional communication with campuses, staff and parents. e. . Communicates effectively with campus level staff, the community and parents, and/or students when appropriate. 4. School Improvement a. Disaggregates, analyzes, and disseminates dyslexia test data for instructional and placement decision making purposes. 5. Student Management a. Coordinate with Campus Dyslexia Specialist and classroom teachers to insure timely attendance and positive student behavior during intervention b. Assists in grouping/scheduling/identifying students with dyslexia needs. c. Provides appropriate interventions to students identified as having dyslexia needs. 6. School/Community Relations a. Maintain high level of communication with parents. b. Projects a positive image to the community. c. Demonstrates awareness of school and community relationships d. Understands and able to communicate the vision of the district and the dyslexia department. 7. Professional Growth and Development a. Attends all required district professional development requirements in order to provide multisensory intervention. b. Attends training seminars, formal classes and other outside opportunities to remain updated and knowledgeable of dyslexia research and current laws. c. Conducts oneself in a professional, ethical and responsible manner. d. Uses data, evaluation techniques, the district appraisal process and feedback from supervisor to improve performance. E. EVALUATION: a. The Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist shall be appraised by the district appraisal system. b. The Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist’s appraisal shall be the responsibility of the principal. c. The principal shall submit to the Superintendent of Schools or the staff person designated by the Superintendent of Schools, the completed appraisal of the Bilingual Dyslexia Skills Specialist. F.
