INCATERN LTD JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Trainee Farm Manager Responsible to: Directors, Farm Manager and General Manager Overall Purpose To work and train under the supervision of the Farm Manager to learn the required duties to enable the Farm and Day Service to run smoothly and professionally on Janith Homes and Incatern properties. The list of activities below broadly describes those duties that need to be carried out but is not exclusive: To assist in the provision of a high standard of animal husbandry and presentation of the farmland that form the residential, day service and farm requirements, in a safe and organised environment for the residential, education and personal enjoyment of clients with learning difficulties. To achieve the experience, skills and competencies required with the potential to progress to the role of Farm Manager. Assisting in the production of organic food for Janith Homes Ltd residential care homes and the day service facilities at Incatern Ltd. To assist with responsibility for the organisation, delegation and supervision of those duties that is required to maintain a high standard of presentation for the farmland, grounds and all livestock. To share with the other team members all the needs of the service users in such a way that promotes the following: - Privacy, Dignity, Choice, Independence, Empowerment, Fulfilment and Wellbeing. To assist in promoting high domestic standards of the physical environment. To assist in conveying through appropriate communication the company’s aims, objectives and goals. To learn and be guided to organise and manage the day to day operation of the farm. To undertake any training on or off site that is deemed necessary for the competent completion of the role. Principle Duties The Trainee Farm Manager will be required to assist the Farm Manager in the following duties: Provide fulfilling and meaningful day service provision to the Incatern Day Service Users. Understand and follow the care plans provided for each service user in your care. Understand and adhere to company policies, procedures and risk assessments. Flexibility over hours to ensure safe and proper animal husbandry, especially during the lambing season. Meat processing - animal culling, balanced stock. Paddock management, all fence maintenance and gates, their security and working order of security lighting, Other maintenance tasks that requires teamwork within the companies. Composting, fertilising, harvest and bailing, hay and straw storage, purchase and distribution Maintaining farm sheds and mucking out. Land drainage and condition of the lake. Issue instruction for pest and weed control, ensuring growth is kept down around tanks, Klargester etc. Incatern Ltd / Trainee Farm Manager – August 2014 INCATERN LTD Safe keeping and storage, in accordance with the requirements of the law and administration of veterinary prescriptions The ordering and organisation of feed stuffs Familiarise with regulations and complete the required DEFRA paperwork in order to comply with current legislation. Maintain all relevant record keeping. The husbandry of animal and fowl stock; cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, geese, ratites, hatchery and any other fowl. Awareness and instruction for the maintenance, safety and operation of farm machinery in accordance with company guidelines and legislation. Ensuring farm machinery is securely stored after use or immobilised as appropriate. Working with the Farm Manager to ensure that the slaughtering of animals should be carried out at the optimum time so as not to incur the company unnecessary feed and vet expenses. Transport to slaughter, transferring carcasses to the butcher and collecting butchered meat should comply with Health and Safety regulations. To ensure continuous communication, advice and support are sought to ensure good practice, procedures and animal welfare are maintained. Information To attend staff meetings, maintain record keeping and liaise with Managers as appropriate. Ensure the maintenance of confidentiality in respect of records, service users, staff, the Company and third party information. Training To attend all training provided by the company when appropriate. Hours of work Currently this position requires five shifts per week, normally 8 – 5 Monday to Friday; some weekend working may be required, with one hour unpaid lunch. This forms part of this posts responsibilities and will be paid at the basic rate. There is no overtime rate application to this post.
