(John McLorinan’s mother). May she rest in peace.

Saturday 8th November commencing at 12noon. Great Tombola prizes and lots of
other goodies! Do come along and join us.

MEDITATION FOR ALL SOULS at Clifton Cathedral Sunday 2nd November at
8pm. Join Clifton Cathedral Choir for a performance of the intensely beautiful
Requiem by Maurice Durufle and the opportunity to place a lighted candle in memory
of anyone who has recently passed away.
Durufle’s serene Requiem matches the more famous Requiem by Faure – both works
imbued with beauty and calm belief in the Resurrection.
As Choral Director John Gibbons says “Durufle’s Requiem is one of the gems of
Twentieth Century music and a soothing balm for those experiencing the pain and
loss of bereavement”.
Admission free.
Clifton Cathedral Choir, Stephen Bryan (organist), John Gibbons (conductor), Emma
Pelkiewicz (mezzo soprano)
ALL SOULS DAY Monday 3rd November Mass will be celebrated at 7.30am, 12noon
and 7.30pm (sung Requiem Mass) During the evening Mass there will be an
opportunity to come forward and light candles in memory of people for whom we
wish to pray and to place these in front of the Altar where they will remain throughout
the Mass, If you would like to remember someone in this way, but can’t be at the
evening Mass there will be an opportunity for you to leave candles during the day
which will be lit on your behalf at the evening Mass.
If there are people you would particularly like to remember at this time, you will find
envelopes near the newsletters into which you can put names and these will stay
before the altar in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and will be prayed for at Masses
during the month of November. Please do not put any money in your envelope for
your special intentions.

FR. ALAN WRITES: CATHEDRAL ROOF APPEAL: Many people will have
heard, by now, of the Grant from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repair
Fund which was set up in April this year in recognition of the powerful symbol that
Cathedrals are of Britain’s shared history, as well as the significant role they play
throughout the commemorations of the centenary of the First World War. So far 41
Cathedrals in England have received awards for vital repairs including Clifton
Cathedral. We have been awarded £600,000 – the highest amount awarded so far.
The grant is a huge gift to Phase 1 of the roof repair project and with the support of
the diocese and ongoing fundraising it will ensure that the replacement of the lower
asphalt covered roofs will go ahead immediately. Fundraising will continue for Phase
2 of the roof repairs which will encompass the higher lead roofs and the steeple and
ensure the whole Cathedral roof is fit to last for many years to come. We are most
grateful for the grant and I particularly wish to thank the members of the Fabric and
Development Committees who have put so much time and effort into all the different
aspects of the work involved in the Grant application.
If any of you have tried to build an extension to a house, just imagine, and this is a
Grade II* building! Our Diocesan Property and Finance Office have also given great
support.
In caring for the Cathedral the caretaker is an important member of staff. Peter Hek
retires this month, after nearly 19 years in post and, as we will be thanking him, we
welcome Vernon Lovell who will be joining us to replace Peter.

posted on our Website and weekly newsletter and also to remind our followers about
upcoming events as they draw near.
HOLY SOULS CEMETERY: Bishop Declan Lang will celebrate the annual Mass at
the Holy Souls Cemetery, Arnos Vale on Saturday 8th November at 11am. All are
welcome.
INTERFAITH MATTERS: On Thursday 6th November the Sikhs celebrate Prakash
Diwas of Siri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib (the birthday of the founder of Sikhism).
Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran writes in his greeting to the Sikhs, the full text of which is
on the notice board in the Narthex: ‘As believers in our own respective religions with
a shared treasury of values, may be, Christian and Sikhs, rediscover the importance of
compassionate service in our personal and collective lives and make it a way of life,
inspiring and encouraging others as well in this regard so as to promote happiness,
harmony and peace everywhere.’
