Map of Scotland Related Section of pack: Geography and History Aim: to find places on a map of Scotland; to describe location of places by using directions. Language Points: Directions (north, north-west etc), sentences including directions (e.g. Glasgow is west of Edinburgh.) Materials: Map worksheet, city names on cards, directions worksheet ESOL level: Access 2 - 3 SCQF level: 2-3 Time: 45minutes Preparation: Photocopy worksheet and cut up cards In Class: 1) Elicit cities in Scotland, give map out to pairs and have students fill in what they know. Give city names out to students on cards to help with spellings and names. Answers: 1. Inverness 2. Aberdeen 3. Dundee 4. Perth 5. Edinburgh 6. Glasgow 7. (E.g. “Dundee is south-west of Edinburgh.”) In pairs, the students place the city name cards on the table to show the correct location. 6) Have students write their own sentences about Scotland using directions.
