This very practical course, aimed for the experienced
women’s health or musculoskeletal physiotherapists with
experience in pelvic floor palpation, provides an
effective assessment and mechanical diagnosis tool that
can be applied to manage the patient with pelvic floor
dysfunction.
IF YOU WISH TO BOOK A PLACE ON THIS
COURSE PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION
FORM ATTACHED.
Pelvic floor disorders can present in varying ways such as stress urinary
incontinence, urgency, urge incontinence, bowel dysfunction, prolapse and
chronic pelvic pain. The onset of pelvic floor dysfunction is rarely the
result of one single event, but more often stems from a whole range of
different issues in a patients life. Such factors could include childbirth,
chronic straining, habitual postural changes as well as central neurological
mechanisms present in chronic pelvic pain.
You will learn about assessment and the treatment of the pelvic floor using
fellow clinicians as models under the guidance of the course tutors. You will
learn to recognise a movement dysfunction of the pelvic floor, be taught
the manual therapy techniques to change the dysfunction and learn to
facilitate the correct movement patterns to restore normal function. The
course also reviews current chronic pain physiology and provides a multidimensional, problem orientated rehabilitation approach with emphasis on
evidence based practice where available. Case histories and patient
demonstrations will be included throughout.
By the end of the course the participant will gain further understanding in:
 Being confident in the assessment of the pelvic floor anatomy
including differentiation of superficial and deep pelvic floor muscles
and overlying fascia.
 Recognising potential disorders of pelvic floor muscle over-activity
and applying this to treat bladder and bowel dysfunction, prolapse
and chronic pelvic pain in men and women.
 Assessment and advanced manual therapy techniques for the pelvic
floor muscles, connective tissue and neural tissue, including the
pudendal nerve.
 A clinically useful, holistic model to illustrate and effectively manage
the multi-dimensional aspect of pain, especially the ‘difficult’ cases.
 The essentials of pain physiology and how to provide appropriate
explanation for your patient.
 Essential home programmes using specific breathing techniques to
release the pelvic floor.
