Program description:
The educational objective of the program is to provide comprehensive training in
the areas of urogynecology, reconstructive and complicated benign pelvic surgery.
The division provides a large clinical volume of patients who are managed both
medically and surgically. A complete approach to pelvic floor disorders using
traditional/video multichannel urodynamic study, cystourethroscopy and
ultrasound. Medical management includes physical therapy, pharmacologic
therapy and the use of pessaries. The faculty has extensive experience with
vaginal and laparoscopic/robotic repair of prolapse including traditional native
tissue approach and the newest transvaginal mesh kits as well as varied
anti-incontinence surgery including suprabubic, transobturator and
single-incision midurethral sling. There is also the opportunity to learn the
management of a wide variety of complications such as mesh protrusion, organ
perforation, vesicovaginal fistula and iatrogenic bladder outlet obstruction.
Fellows will participate in the educational activity of the division including the
teaching and supervision of medical students and residents.
