Higher Education Field Academy
A chance to be an Archaeologist in Hillington!
Wednesday and Thursday, 18th and 19th March,
Saturday and Sunday, 21st and 22nd March 2015
Pott Row, Grimston, off Chapel Lane – excavation a test pit in June 2013 with Dr Carenza Lewis, exTime Team and University of Cambridge Archaeologist.
Dr. Carenza Lewis has contacted the local Archaeological Society for support to help
deliver a Higher Education Field Academy (HEFA) for local school children in West
Norfolk. These events enable gifted children the chance to experience the method
and theory behind archaeology, whilst digging in local gardens. Hillington has been
selected as a base for the 2015 West Norfolk Academy. Would you like to be part of
this year’s Academy?
We require 12 locations across Hillington to excavate with small groups of directed
children from local schools. If successful, then, over the weekend the Archaeological
Society will continue excavation in Hillington. Later in the year a feedback evening
will be organised with Hillington Parish Council.
The March week of activities will build on the success of the 2013 HLF supported
Gaywood Valley Archaeological and Historical Project organised by the local
Archaeological Society. Perhaps you would like to find out how old your village is,
were Romans here and what date are the pottery sherds you find in your garden?
Would You Like To Join Us?
Please contact Dr. Bond and volunteer your garden for this year’s excavations.
