INTRODUCING OPENLAB - A NEW CONCEPT FOR LABORATORY INFORMATICS Freek Varossieau Agilent Technologies R&D GmbH, Germany With the introduction of CyberLAB Knowledge Engineering System in 1999 by Scientific Software, now Agilent Technologies, a new era in laboratory data handling emerged. For the first time organizations had the possibility to centrally store, indexed and archive ALL their produced data, whether this was raw data, Office files or printed reports in PDF. Pushed by the major pharmaceutical companies the development of the product was rapid and really focused on the real issues in the laboratory. Now Agilent Technologies introduces the latest development in data management, the OpenLAB framework for laboratories. OpenLAB is an informatics backbone based on the industry standard CyberLAB that stores, indexes and manages data. The OpenLAB framework can be extended with a networked chromatography data acquisition system (CDS), making it the world’s first real web based CDS. Efficiency tools like Business Process Management (BPM), a workflow management tool; and compliance tools like Record Retention and Document Management greatly improves the day-to-day work of the laboratory. There are benefits to reap for each level in the organization, from the lab floor technician up to the QA/QC managers, ranging from hassle free data archiving to simplified management of your laboratory.
