Agilent PC Bundle (with OpenLAB CDS
ChemStation Edition)
1
First time boot-up of the Agilent bundle PC
The Agilent bundle PC comes with a pre-installed OpenLAB CDS software. During installation in the
factory the PC name was WIN-HVM5U5T7EEK.
When you start this PC the first time, an internal script is activated. The user is prompted to select the
keyboard layout, the geography and the time zone.
In the second screen the user is prompted to create a user name and password. This user name will be
reflected in the PC name.
If the PC workstation will not be part of a network (that is, if duplicate PC names are not an issue), the
easiest procedure would be to make WIN-HVM5U5T7EEK the PC name.
Example:
As a user name the name John is entered.
The PC name will be HP-JOHN.
Clear HP-JOHN and replace it by WIN-HVM5U5T7EEK
PC Name different from WIN-HVM5U5T7EEK:
A change of the PC name may be scheduled to avoid duplicate names in a network or can be due to a
policy change. When a PC name is changed after installation of OpenLAB CDS, there are some
consequences that need to be considered.
If this PC workstation is part of a network, or if you need to change the PC name for other reasons
please carefully read the information below.

What happens when the name of a PC running OpenLAB CDS is changed?
A change of the PC name may be scheduled to avoid duplicate names in a network or can be due to a
policy change. When a PC name is changed after installation of OpenLAB CDS, there are some
consequences that need to be considered.
A: The license file for a PC is no longer valid
OpenLAB CDS instruments are licensed by installing files that are specifically created for a given
configuration. The text of the license files contains references to the computer name and the hardware
address of the network card. If one of the parameters is changed, the license no longer applies.
B: The instrument controller will no longer be resolved
An instrument controller is a workstation or AIC that is used to control an instrument. This can be either
a physical instrument for acquisition or for Data Analysis only.
During installation of a standalone workstation the PC name of this workstation is registered as the
Instrument Controller. If the name is changed after installation, the registered name is not updated
automatically. Instead the old name remains as an unresolved orphan and instruments that are
configured with this name will no longer start.

Solution
Depending on whether the name change was intentional or not, whether it already occurred or is yet to
happen, there are different steps that have to be executed.
If the name change was not intended: Revert to the PC name as it has been before.
NOTE: The old name can be found in the list of instrument controllers in the Administration section in
the OpenLAB Control Panel.

If the name change was intended:
1. Remove the old name of the instrument controller from the list of instrument controllers in the
Administration section in the OpenLAB CDS Control Panel.
NOTE: This step can be done only for controllers that have no instruments assigned to them. Any
instruments need to be deleted first.
2. After the change to the new name you need to register this new PC name with OpenLAB Shared
Services.
This is done by executing the file RegisterCS.bat in the ChemStation Core folder:
3. If instruments have been deleted, re-create them now.
4. The final step would then be to install a license file that is generated with the new PC name (host
name).
