Instructions for Pulmonary Function Studies
Pulmonary Function Studies are test to evaluate the capacity of your lungs. There are different tests to
help the doctor determine the presence of any lung disease or to assist with controlling your
medications.
In preparation for this test, there are a few instructions prior to coming that day.
1. Do not smoke anything within 24 hours of the test.
2. Discontinue the following inhaled breathing medications at least 4 hours prior
to testing unless indicated by your physician. The medications are Proair
HFA, Xopenex, HFA, Ventolin HFA, Proventil HFA or albuterol
nebulizer medication. If you become severely short of breath, please take
your medication and tell the respiratory therapist at the time of your testing.
3. The testing will take at least 1 hour. Please plan for at least that long a period
of time. (Note: Some test will take less time)
4. Please refrain from wearing PERFUME prior to testing.

If you cannot keep your appointment, please give our office 24-hour notice prior to your appointment.
If you do not SHOW UP for your appointment a $50.00 NO SHOW FEE will be charged to your
account and you will not be able to reschedule until payment for NO SHOW FEE IS PAID.
