Tick the box below to show which idea you have chosen Idea A Idea B e) Describe two ways that your design idea could be developed further Changing, adding, taking away e.g. the fastening, the decoration, seams, edge finishes, colours, shape, sizes 1-2 marks 2 ways of changing things named 3-4 marks details and examples 4 f) Use sketches, labels and notes to present a final design for your product. You have this page and the next one to present your idea. 24 Marks will be awarded for : Choice and use of fabric and components 4 At least 2 of each Choice of techniques 4 Appropriate choice of techniques for product, all techniques that could be included are Appliqué decoration 2 Appropriate choice of position, design, fabrics etc. Use of colour 3 Colour choice relates to theme, effective choices, effective use Use of the theme 4 Theme used as part of design – explanation if inspiration is not clear Originality & quality of the design 4 Use of theme in an unusual way, type of idea Presentation of the final idea 3 Good use of space, clear diagrams, unusual ideas, all information that could be given is included Read where the marks are to be awarded Use all space provided Include back, front, side, birds eye views etc. as necessary Include exploded views to show detail Don’t spend too long colouring in – scamp lines (band of colour) will do Annotate detail to explain your ideas 1-6 marks 7-12 marks 13-18 marks 19-24 marks lacks detail, unimaginative, poor use of space, poor relation to theme unimaginative, not thought about end use, relates to theme but is weak sound design relating to theme, some detail, some imagination used clear, detailed, relates to spec & theme, imaginative g) Explain why the design idea you have chosen will appeal to your target market e.g. Fashionable (give example), why the style appeals, why the colour appeals etc. 2 Question 3 is about the fabrics & components you have used for your prouct 3 a) Write a fabric specification for the fabric you will use for your product i) fibre content this will depend on the chosen fabric ii) method of construction this will depend on the chosen fabric colour, texture, surface appearance, feel, weight, properties e.g. washability, crease resistance 6 b) Name two components you will need for your product e.g. zip, interfacing, buttons, ribbon, lace, piping cord 2 c) Name one fabric finish that would improve the qualities of your chosen fabric Should relate to chosen fabric and item e.g. stain resistance, crease resistance (Teflon), flame resistance (Proban) 1 mark basic name 2 marks including commercial name and/or additional details 2 d) Explain why this finish might be necessary Adds value for the consumer and makes product more usable, reduces negative aspects of fabric, makes product last longer 2 Question 4 is about manufacture of your product 4 a) Use notes and diagrams to explain how to do the appliqué decoration Try to do as many diagrams as possible Label diagrams to explain details Look at the number of marks and try to do around that many stages in your description Possible nformation to include : e.g. Use of interfacing How to hold down shape ready for machining e.g. bondaweb, tacking, lockstitch How to stitch shape into place – detail of stitch etc. e.g. close zigzag Potential quality control points 4 b) Use notes and diagrams to describe how to do one of the seams on the product Appropriate choice of seam Try to do as many diagrams as possible Label diagrams to explain details Look at the number of marks and try to do around that many stages in
