WHEREAS, we are here today to express special recognition to Jerry Ferguson and to honor him for his distinguished thirty-eight year career with Blue Bell Creameries; and WHEREAS, Jerry began his career with Blue Bell in 1975 as a Driver at the Houston Branch, was promoted to Route Supervisor in 1977 and transferred to the Alvin Branch. He was then promoted to Territory Manager at the Alvin Branch in 1980 and transferred to the Dallas Branch as Sales Manager in 1982. He became the Dallas Branch Manager in 1984 and has faithfully served in this capacity since that time; and WHEREAS, Jerry has been a member of the Mesquite Rotary Club for 20 years and served as President in 2006-2007. He has also been an active member in the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce and was the 2013 Board Chairman. He has faithfully supported the Mesquite Education Foundation, Addressing Mesquite Day, Mesquite Rotary Bike Ride, Boy Scouts of America, Mesquite Social Services and the Mesquite Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Jerry will be missed both professionally and as a friend, and has displayed the highest example of character, ethics, morals and unselfish service; and WHEREAS, on behalf of the entire City Council, I want to express my sincere appreciation to Jerry for his dedication to Blue Bell Creameries and wish him much happiness as he begins this exciting new chapter in his life. NOW, THEREFORE, I, John Monaco, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim Thursday, December 19, 2013, as: Jerry Ferguson Day in the City of Mesquite, and urge all citizens and Blue Bell Creameries employees to join me in congratulating Jerry on an outstanding career with Blue Bell Creameries, and extend to Jerry, Janis and their three children – Phil, Sara and Seth – our best wishes of happiness and good health in the future.
