An opportunity to help lead NAS research and learn new skills! The National Autistic Society (NAS) wants people with autism and their families to help to lead its next research project. To make this happen we are recruiting and training six people to become part of a Peer Research Team. This is part of a research project that will look at the impact and future of the Adult Autism Strategy. The strategy will be reviewed by the Government in 2013 and we want to make sure the voice of people with autism will be central to this. This October and November we will be carrying out focus groups across the country. They will each focus on a specific service or initiative that has been created or has improved because of the autism strategy. Each focus group will look at how this has made a difference to people autism and their families. We would like the peer research team to help facilitate these focus groups. Becoming part of the Peer Research Team will involve: Attending a training day in London on 12th September 2012 which will provide you with the skills and information needed to carry out a focus group. Helping to run a focus group which is nearest to where you live. The training day and focus groups will be led by the Social Policy Researcher along with other members of the Policy and Campaigns team at the NAS. To be eligible to take part in this you need to be over 16 years of age and an adult with autism or a family member of someone with autism. We also welcome a family member and a person with autism who want to take part as a pair. Selection will be based on your reasons for wanting to be involved in the research. We also want our peer researchers to reflect the wider population of people with autism so we will aim to select people from different ethnic backgrounds and from different regions. All travel expenses will be refunded for the project and we give each participant (or participant couple) £150 in total for attending both the training day and focus group. If you are interested in applying to take part please fill out the form on the next page and return it by email or by post.
