NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity Cell Biology-Molecular Biology-Molecular Immunology A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the Molecular Regulation Section of the Experimental Immunology Branch to investigate the molecular mechanisms regulating gene transcription initiation and elongation. Using the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I genes as a model, research is focused on characterizing the regulatory pathways that govern their transcription in order to understand how class I molecules function in immune surveillance. Research projects focus on the 1) characterization of the transcription factors, DNA sequence elements and core promoter structure using in vitro assays or in vivo mouse transgenic models, 2) molecular mechanisms of transcription initiation and elongation using in vitro systems, 3) chromatin organization and promoter organization in vivo in transgenic model systems, and 4) the role of locus control regions and boundary elements in regulating gene expression. Experimental approaches include standard molecular and cell biology (including sequencing, ChIP analysis, in vitro transcription, microarrays, siRNA etc), confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, DNA-mediated gene transfer techniques including transgenesis, bioinformatics. In addition, the Branch provides exposure to a large scope of biological processes (transcription, DNA repair, cell trafficking, T cell development) within the scope of the immunological landscape The laboratory and Branch are committed to effective and personal mentoring of all trainees to prepare them for future careers as independent investigators. This includes direct and frequent interactions and collaborations within the lab, Branch and other NIH labs, participation in national/international meetings and support for FAES courses. Program duration is 2 to 5 years. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with less than 5 years postdoctoral experience. Training/experience in either cell biology, molecular biology or molecular immunology required. Stipend range $37,000 to $47,000 commensurate with experience. Standard self and family health insurance is provided and high option coverage is available. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, bibliography and three letters of references to Dr. Dinah Singer – via email ds13@nih.gov or mail to National Cancer Institute, 6130 Executive Blvd, Rm. 5044, Bethesda, MD 20892-8342 DHHS, NIH and NCI are EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYERS
