Instructions for Brandt Daroff Exercises – Information Leaflet Your doctor has diagnosed your dizziness as being caused by ‘Benign Positional Vertigo’. This can be treated with the Brandt Daroff Exercises. These help reposition the calcium crystals within the balance mechanism in your ear – and so usually improve your symptoms over the following couple of weeks. The exercises will take you about 20 minutes each time you do them. Below is a set of instructions explaining how they’re done. They should be performed 3 times per day for about a week or until you’ve been clear of vertigo for 3 days. Instructions for Brandt Daroff Exercises 1. Sit on the edge of your bed or settee. 2. Lie down on the side that causes your dizziness to increase and look towards the ceiling. Stay in this position for 2 minutes. 3. Sit upright and then wait for 30 seconds. 4. Move rapidly to the opposite side for 2 minutes. This completes the first cycle of the exercise. 5. Repeat these 4 steps 5 more times. 6. Do the exercises 3 times a day for about one week or until you have been clear of dizziness for 3 days.
