Guidelines for Funding Courses and Conferences Mulbarton Church Status – Approved by PCC By: Rupert Wilkins Date: June 2003 General principles 1. There will continually be opportunities for members of the church to attend courses and conferences (referred to below as courses). In general these opportunities should be taken, where the courses are seen by the PCC as of benefit to the wider Church. 2. If PCC is providing funding, the PCC should decide whether the course is suitable and of benefit to the Church, and how many members should attend. 3. In many cases the individuals attending may be able to afford to pay for the fees themselves. In other cases this should not prevent people from attending. 4. The total cost of the course should be considered, including travel, accommodation and food. 5. Numbers of people attending, course costs, standards of accommodation and transport need to be considered by PCC, in the knowledge that PCC funds are created from personal giving and must be allocated with due care. 6. The PCC should not discuss the individual financial position of prospective attenders. 7. In case of the need for an urgent decision, Standing Committee may be requested to make a decision on behalf of PCC. Suggest way to proceed 1. An individual or a group of people decide that they would like to attend a course, or PCC proposes that a delegation is sent. 2. The prospective attenders meet together and work out the total cost and who should attend. 3. Either as a group or individually they contact the treasurer and/or Rector, and tell him or her what support will be requested from the PCC (part or total of the total costs). If one of more of them need the PCC to make a financial contribution, the treasurer is then able to present to the PCC the cost to the PCC of the group attending, without the PCC needing to know who will be supported. 4. The individual or group make their request to the PCC or Standing Committtee, with the costs from the treasurer. 5. If the PCC approve, payment for the course is made, and reclaimed from the treasurer. Page 1 of 1
