Hubert Ghassan (Gus) Rassam President 2010-2011 Executive Director William L. Fisher President Elect 23 October 2009 Noel Burkhead USGS Florida Integrated Science Center Center for Aquatic Resource Studies 7920 NW 71st St Gainesville, Florida 32653 Dear Noel: I am pleased to re-appoint you as Chair of the AFS Endangered Species Committee for 2010-2011. Your recent report to the Governing Board indicates that the Committee is close to achieving its goals. It is good to know that the Mussel and Snail Subcommittees are in the final phases of their products, and that the crayfish and fishes lists are available on line. As you mentioned in your report, the broad dissemination of the status of declining mollusks, crayfishes, and fishes should significantly enhance public awareness of problems and elevate visibility of the AFS mission. I commend you as Chair, the Subcommittee Chair, and all members of the subcommittees who have contributed to this effort. I understand from our conservation that the structure of the four subcommittees will not be changing and that the subcommittees are progressing with their charges. I have appended the lists of subcommittee chairs and members that were available to me. If there are any changes, please let me know. I think it is important to document the contributors to this work. I have received 8 applications for committee appointments to the Endangered Species Committee, but I think most of the applicants are unaware of activities of this Committee. The applicants are: Dan Dembkowski, Master's student, Mississippi State University Greg Seegert, EA Engineering, Deerfield, IL Rafael Miranda, Professor, School of Sciences, University of Navarra, Spain Joseph Quattro, Biological Sciences, University of South Carolina, Columbia Jeff Falke, National Research Council/NOAA Fisheries, Corvallis, OR Alice Berg, Alice Berg & Associates, Sierraville, CA Nathan Kuntz, Master's student, Mississippi State University David Stagliano, Montana Natural Heritage Program, Helena If you need additional members for any subcommittee and any of these applicants seem to be appropriate, please let me know and I will send you copies their applications. Please provide a report on the achievements of the Committee for the 2010 Mid-year and 2011 Annual meetings of the Governing Board. On behalf of AFS, I extend appreciation to you as Chair, subcommittee chairs, and committee members for your work on endangered species and contributions to the AFS. Thank you for your continued service. Please contact me via telephone (307-760-8723) or email (whubert@uwyo.edu) if I can be of assistance. Sincerely, Wayne A.
