SM2032 Intermedia Project Project Proposal Student name: xxx (xxx) Student I.D.: 12345678 Supervisors: xxx Date: 2 February xxxx Project title: Vestige of Life Project description: My project is going to present a short video in a new way. My project will be exhibited in a room. The setting of the room is as below: I will set up 4 large screens (monitors) with speakers in the room. Each monitor will represent 4 different things, those are, a woman, a baby, a man and a goldfish from left to right. First of all, when the audiences walk in the room, they will see the decorations on the curtain. There will be some photos on the curtain showing the environment of the area behind the curtain to be a bedroom. However, the photos are only virtual images created by computer. When the audiences walk inside the curtain, they can only find 4 monitors arranged as above. And at this time, they can hear the sound of snore and all the lights are off. The 4 monitors are screening different things which are the dreams of the four different objects. While the audiences are still wondering what’s happened, there will be an alarm ringing loudly and phone ringing and baby crying. At this time, the lights are on and the monitors all dip to black and then begins to show different things. Now, the 4 monitors are showing the four different points of view of the objects watching the things happening in same bedroom where they are living. Besides, the speakers are respectively outputting the audio track of the different monitors. That means audiences can hear what the different objects hear by the different speakers. Objectives: In the project, I would like to try to experience a new form of presenting a video or a story. On the other hand, I would like to give the audiences a new experience to use a new way to observe a living object (for example mature human beings, new born baby and animal) through watching their vision (see what they see), hearing their hearing (hear what they hear), and reading their minds (observing their dreams). Furthermore, I want to show the vestige of life through my project. It means that I want to use my project to *show a story that happened in a bedroom at a specific time, but I use the method of showing the vestigial thinking/vision/hearing of the living objects to tell the story rather than showing the real things. Therefore, even there are no decorations and real objects in the room, audiences still can know what has happened in the room which in fact is a bedroom by experiencing the virtual images. Project Reference: Books: Video art, Michael Rush, London : Thames & Hudson, 2003. Then I will write the script of the story and think to add more elements in the story. After that, I will shoot and record what I need. The final work I need to do is editing and is to synchronize the image and the sound together for the four different monitors. Schedule: Feb pre-production (writing script, finding helpers, designing more details of the project, etc.) Mar-April Shooting, finding footage, recording, April-May Editing Mid-May final rehearsal, setting up all the things, demonstrating the whole project Resources: Venue: 1 room Equipment: 2 20’’or upper monitors 2 17’’ monitors 4 pair of speakers 4 notebooks Sony DSR-PD150P Fisheye lens Tripod Sony TCD-D10 Pro II audio recorder Sennheiser MKH416 Sennheiser Wireless Neck Mic Audio Technica AT835B Sony MDR-7506 headphone C-stand Clips Software: MAX/MSP/Jitter Premier After effects Nuendo Maya Processing
