How NARFE Protects Our Benefits:
First and foremost NARFE serves as our Legislative Voice on the Hill,
advocating before Congress on behalf of the federal community.
• Recently, NARFE has been successful in preventing a
change in the COLA for Federal pensions and Social Security recipients.
• NARFE also successfully supported allowing FERS
employees to include unused sick leave when calculating their annuity,
and the inclusion of a Roth option in the TSP system.
In turn, NARFE provides timely information to members about actions pending in
Congress or being considered by the President. (I’m sending via separate email a
sample of the weekly alert and Newswatch issued by NARFE).
NARFE also has HQ staff and local Service Officers that provide answers – both
pre- and post-retirement – to members’ complex questions concerning benefits
(e.g., annuities, the TSP system, health benefits, Medicare, and Social Security).

As a member, you would receive a monthly magazine with outstanding
articles of interest to Federal workers and retirements. Recent articles covered the
intricacies of the Federal Health insurance system and Medicare; Second Careers,
and the new Phased Retirement Option (which NARFE also supported); and
Buyouts and Early Outs.

You would also be part of NARFE’s efforts to raise funds for Alzheimer
research. To date, NARFE members have contributed over $10 million.”
