2015 BBAC Running Season Handicap System

Each participant’s initial time is their best time from last years running or latest aquathon series plus
two minutes to give everyone an equal leeway to acquaint themselves with running again. The
Handicap system applies to adult and adolescent competitors.

New runners who do not have a recent run or aquathon time will not be included in allocation of
points their first week. These runners will be allocated the lowest points, depending on number of
starters, only, and are eligible for maximum points from their next race.

As race distances increase, times will be worked out by dividing the fastest time by the distance and
then multiplying it with the new distance. All times are rounded to the nearest 5 seconds.

There are 2 pointscore competitions this year on the full and half distance races. It is ideal if runners
concentrate on either full or half distance competition for fairness of point scoring.
Points will be allocated from 45 down to 1, based on the average number of runners each week.
Those who assist in conducting the races are awarded 30 points.


The worst 2 pointscore weeks are deducted when considering placings for the John Dick (Adults)
and Mike Roberts (Children) Pointscore Trophies.
Over or under Handicap policy

If a member exceeds their time by more than 10 seconds then their time the next week will be
increased by half the amount that they went over their time up to a maximum for each race as
follows: 15 secs for 3k, 20 secs for 4k, 25 secs for 5k, 30 secs for 6k, 40 secs for 8k, 50 secs for 10k
and 60 secs for 12k. If a member breaks their time, this will be their new time.

All times are rounded to the nearest 5 seconds.
Shorter Distance Handicap Policy

Runners who compete in the shorter distance series will run at the same time as the long distance but
will be assessed on the distance they are running.
Walking and Pram Policy

Those who are injured or are only able to walk are welcome to compete in the half distance
pointscore with a time determined from the last running or aquathon season or from their first walk
if no prior time in the former categories. Alternatively, they may choose to assist in running the races
and score 30 points if they are asked to do so.
 Parents who compete with a pram will be provided an allowance of 5 seconds per kilometre off their
current time.

A parent who elects to run without their pram for a week will then be handicapped on their non pram
time which will be 5 seconds per kilometre onto their pram time.
2
Trophy Races.

This season the BBAC will have three (3) trophy races, in honour of past and present outstanding
club members, for both the full and half distance competitions.

All races will be part of the annual point scores, however in order to win any given trophy race a
runner must have competed in the required qualifying amount of races stated in bold below, prior to
race day in order to be eligible to claim the trophy or prizes.

Runners are not allowed to wear watches or any timing device during these races.

Runners will be allocated their best time this season, for each distance.

Runners who break their time by more than that stated below in bold, which equates to an allowance
of 5 seconds per km, will not be eligible for trophies or prizes.

All runners who are not qualified for trophy races and prizes are still eligible for the maximum
points in the position that they finished the race for club point score series.

Only competitors who run the stated distances in bold below will be considered for the Trophy or
prizes.
