Here is a selection of winter events from the St. Johns Cultural Council: Recent Works on Metal and Canvas Nov. 7-30 Eleanor Hughes and Curt Bowman, regionally recognized artists and former St. Augustine residents, return to exhibit recent works. The couple continue to investigate botanical and maritime themes utilizing painting, collage and figurative sculpture. The Sing Out Loud Series Select Dates in November Series highlights an eclectic group of award-winning national touring artists, as well as some of the best local singer-songwriters that St. Augustine has to offer. Kicking off this celebration of songwriters will be rollicking Americana and Grand Old Opry favorites, The Black Lillies on Nov. 7 at the Colonial Quarter in downtown St. Augustine, followed by one of America’s most accomplished singer-songwriters Randy Newman on Nov. 9 at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium. British Night Watch - A Grande Illumination Dec. 6 An impressive pageant of color and light that reflects the British customs of St. Augustine, during the British Occupation (1763-1784). All are invited to bring a candle and follow the Night Watch Colonial Torchlight Parade down St. George Street to secure the City Gates. The procession then leads to the Plaza de la Constitucion to hear a holiday proclamation and soldiers firing a volley of joy to celebrate the season.
