WP6: Water resources vulnerability to climatic change Coordinator: Elisabeta Oprisan The main objective is the analysis of water resources vulnerability to climatic change and the establishment of the necessary adaptation measures in pilot river basins. This WP is coordinated by the INHGA and is divided into 3 tasks: Task1 6.1 The forecast of water demands of utilities. The aim of the task is to make a forecast of future water demands for the population, industry, agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, hydropower production for different development scenarios based on statistical data, development prognosis based on sectoral development policies, strategies and plans. Task 6.2 Determination of water resources vulnerability indicators. Based on resulting hydrological data for medium and low streamflow and on the forecast of water demand of utilities water resources vulnerability indicators will be established using indices based on: human water requirements (basic human water requirements, the social water stress index, water resources availability, Falkenmark indicator), water resources vulnerability indices (index of local water use and reuse, watershed sustainability, water supply stress, physical and economical water scarcity) and environmental water requirements (population growth impacts on water resources availability, assessing water resource supplies using the water stress indicator). Task 6.3 Measures for the mitigation of water resources vulnerability to the impact of climatic changes. Based on the results obtained in tasks 6.1. and 6.2. different structural measures for the mitigation of the vulnerability of water resources for the pilots basins will be proposed. The measures will take into account the possibilities to increase the water availability at the sources and the reduction of water demand of utilities.
