Old Milon
In “Old Milon” by Guy de Maupassant was a very cunning man.Old Milon had many
character traits that described him, but the most outstanding trait that he has is his cunning trait.
Before the first murder old Milon acted quiet, and when the soldiers were around he acted kind
towards them. This showed that he was cunning because he is trying to gain the trust from the
soldiers so that he would be the last to be suspected as the murderer. During the first murder he
was very quiet, sneaky, and he hid the body at the bottom of the pond near the barn. He hides the
body so that no one will find it and this proves that he’s cunning enough to figure out a plan of
what to do with the evidence. For the next couple of the murders he disguised himself up as a
Prussian soldier, and he stole one of the horses, and he tried to talk like them. By doing this it
shows that he was cunning because he acted like one of them so that the other soldiers wouldn’t
recognize him and they would trust him. At old Milon’s trial he acted like a humble hero and he
spit in the Prussian soldier’s face. This proves that he was cunning because he acts like he
doesn’t care about what will happen to him, which could be that he wants to try to outsmart them
by saying that whatever happens to him he knows that what he did was the right thing to do. In
all, old Milon’s actions he did proved that he was a cunning man.
