Updates: Community Education: number of tutor hours (for VEC registered tutors) available before year end. Application forms are circulated with these minutes and are also available from cef@clareadulteducation.org K/B Family Resource Centre: A number of courses, including BTEI are about to start: Watercolours, Art & Craft, Photography (a few places left), Stained glass (places). Move to courthouse ongoing and plans for dry stone walling, horticulture etc depend on the move. CLLN: If anyone wants Equality & Managing Diversity Training for staff/tutors, please contact Martina. She has a course in ennis planned for October, but than is full. If other course is requested, she will let everybody know in case one or two are interested. FETAC upskilling day on November 12th in Ennis. Booking is online at www.sfe.ie This is the first time Ennis was a venue without a specific request, so it is important to support it. Morning session is for centre coordinators, afternoon for all on Assessment. There was only a standard response to lobbying letters on BTEI and FETAC upskilling. A copy of the lobbying letter on FETAC is attached to the notice of the November session on Upcoming Events, on our website Ring 065 6895422 or email ict@clarelearningnetwork.org for help in updating pages, courses or for lost/forgotten passwords. St Anne’s Community College: First Aid and Internet and Email courses will begin on October 8th in the school. Registration is during school hours on Wednesday October 3rd or 7.00 – 8.00 that evening. ESOL registration is at 6.30 on the 8th Oct in the school. BTEI: in Scariff a L4 (2 modules) pre childcare course will run before Xmas with a full L5 beginning after Christmas, Jan – Nov 2008. IT for Beginners will run on Mondays at 9.15, also Ceramics and possibly woodwork & Stained Glass. Food & cookery will run in both Scariff & Killaloe after Christmas. In Killaloe 2 Business modules, Manual & Computerised Payroll and Manual & Computerised Accounts . Also IT at 11.30 on Mondays. Mike R is seeking submissions for next year as proposal to DES will be returned shortly. VTOS has 22 students, 80% Irish which is a big change. Are working on plans to refurbish building. CABES: Offering eLearning, one to one tuition, Group Literacy, Support Literacy, Integrated and Themed Literacy, ESOL, Family Learning. Maths (household budgeting – manual and IT), ITABE, and a new programme with theme Think well, write well and speak well about myself. eLearning Thursdays (starting Thurs 4th Oct) drop in 1.30 to 3.00; class 3.00 – 5.00. Have identified progression routes for these. East clare Coop have application to HSE for Stone Carving and Clay Modelling. East Clare Community Support: Courses for 60+ age group, Parents and Toddlers, Art & Jewellery making, Making Choices. Mental Health week is Mon 8th to Fri 13th October. Mike H gave an input on the DES (2000) White Paper Learning for Life. Core Principles are: Lifelong Learning as a systemic approach, Equality and Interculturalism. Six priority areas are: consciousness raising, citizenship, cohesion, competitiveness, cultural development and community development. Mike identified areas which have been addressed (BTEI, Adult Guidance, Community Ed, Adult Literacy provision) and which have yet to be addressed (Adult Learning board, National professional forum for Adult and Community educators, Accrediting Prior Learning).
