Instructional Methods: In order to provide for different types of learners, different teaching methods are employed in this course. A multimedia approach is used in class, including computer slide presentations keyed to the instructor’s lecture. Lecture and note taking are included. Questions are encouraged. Audiotaping is permitted. Course Evaluation/Grading: Progress in BOT 1613 is evaluated through objective chapter tests and chapter assignments. A major test is given for each chapter. Quizzes and unannounced daily quizzes may be given in addition to major tests. Any chapter test may contain true/false, multiple choice, matching, and completion items and contain varying numbers of test items, depending upon the length and complexity of the chapter. The date of each chapter test is listed on the course calendar. The instructor will announce any necessary changes in due dates in class or via announcements on the course site. Prepare for chapter tests by reading the textbook material, reviewing the PowerPoint slide shows and notes from class, studying the learning exercise questions for each chapter, reviewing the study guide, and completing the Chapter Review. Chapter Reviews have unlimited access, but a minimum score of 85% is required before the Chapter Test can be taken. Chapter Reviews may be taken throughout the semester for continuous review of medical terms. The final exam is objective in nature and is comprehensive and will be taken in class. TESTING is usually done on the Desire 2 Learn course website. Tests will be taken in class on the day assigned, unless otherwise announced. Ten (10) points will be deducted from the grade of a missed test. Any missed test will be made up at a time to be determined by the instructor and may be delayed until the week prior to the Final Exam. Tests will have a time limit, and a deduction of 5 points per minute will be assessed for exceeding the time allowed. Major chapter tests will be announced in advance in class and are also listed on the course calendar. If absent, it is the student’s responsibility to check with the instructor or with a classmate to see if any announcements or assignments were made and to be prepared to submit any assignment or complete any test due the day the student returns to class. Medical vocabulary spelling and definition tests will also be given at the instructor’s discretion. Grade Computation: Each assignment, test, or quiz will have a total point value. The student will accumulate points based on correct responses or completion accuracy. Certain projects will be required for successful completion. (Total points earned divided by total points available equals final average.) Grading Scale: A = 93-100% B = 85-92% C = 75-84% 2 D = 70-74% F = Below 70% Course Honesty Policy: Each student is expected to accomplish his/her own work. Students will receive a grade of "0" on a given assignment for any first time act of academic dishonesty, including plagiarism. Subsequent acts of academic dishonesty may result in failure of the course and/or dismissal from the institution. MGCCC will administer the MS-CPAS (Mississippi Career Planning and Assessment System) prior to program completion. All students completing a career and technical program must take the MS-CPAS.
