Programs for Graduates with Master Degree in Marxist Philosophy

I.
Objectives
1. This faculty aims at training advanced professionals and practical talents with profound philosophical
theoretical knowledge, adhering to right political direction and the Party’s political lines. It is required
that postgraduates have extensive, deep-rooted, elaborate and basic knowledge in Marxist philosophy
and systematic faculty theory. After graduation the doctoral graduates can work as theory advocators
and perform practical work in higher education establishments, academic research institutes,
government organizations and press publishing houses, etc.
II .Tendency
1. Study of Historical Materialist
Mainly study the Marxist materialist conception of history and principle of methodology and their
contemporary development
2. Theory of social development
Systematic study on the history、theory and method of modernization and social development
from the angle of historical philosophy
3. Political philosophy
With Marxist stand、viewpoint and method, Viewing the issues and tendency of contemporary
political philosophy and study the basic principle of political philosophy
III. Duration of study
1. Full-time postgraduates are required to normally study for three years in length. Full-time master
graduates who are outstanding can be allowed to graduate one year ahead after passing a strict exam.
The postgraduates are required to fulfill the total credits during the former three terms, and carry out
social practice and graduation dissertation devising a subject、 starting report and writing and defense.

2. For the postgraduates at work, the time for study is allowed to exceed four years, and they are
required to fulfill the total credits before the fourth term, and do social practice and graduation
dissertation devising a subject、 starting report and writing and defense during the surplus terms.
IV. Total credits
For the postgraduates, 32 credits are required, of which are compulsory 28 credits and faculty
compulsory 4-6 credits included.
V. Curriculum & credits (see the curriculum in details)

d、frontier- field academic lectures, 2 credits.( include discussing class)
(1) Forms
The lectures in the faculty mainly deal with discussions surrounding the latest issues and hot topics
in the development of the field. Postgraduates should have a good command of the academic tendency
of the day in order to actively participate in the study of the latest issues or major problems and cultivate
the ability of independent thinking and academic researching.
(2) Requirements
The lectures are carried our during the study period, and mainly adopt individual lecturing in
combination with discussions. Postgraduates are required to give individual lectures for not less than
two times. After the lecture, postgraduates should write one paper with original views on the latest
academic tendency. The paper is the assessment accordance. There are the qualified and the
not-qualified and 2 credits for the qualified.
2.
Selective courses
With the help of the tutor, choosing not less than two selective courses, 4-6 credits: one compulsory

first-class course is included, two or more courses are not limited.
（3）Supplementary courses
Postgraduates with the same-level degree or non-major degree are required to select Chinese
philosophical history and western philosophical history which are for college students. The results are
recorded in the personal files with no credits.
六 Mid-term assessments
Our faculty performs mid-term assessment on postgraduates which is held at the beginning of the
fourth term. The postgraduates who pass the assessment can enter the phase of degree dissertation’s
devising、 expounding and writing. The failed will be dealt with in accordance with the postgraduate
regulation of Shandong University.
VII. Scientific research and degree dissertation
1. Scientific research
During studying at school, besides fulfilling the total courses, the postgraduates should take part
in the academic subject conducted by the tutor to cultivate the independent researching ability and finish
the degree dissertation and pass the defense. The postgraduates also should try to attend 1-2 state
academic seminar and offer paper to the seminar and take part in discussion if possible.
2. Degree dissertation
(1) After passing the mid-term assessment, the postgraduates begin their dissertation writing phase;
(2) Dissertation devising should have theoretical value or realistic meaning, reflect Marxist
philosophical perspective and have academic original creation.
(3) Before writing the dissertation officially, the postgraduates should offer elaborate starting report,
explaining the meaning of the dissertation devising, the research situation at home and abroad, basic
points and thinking mode of writing. Dissertation starting report normally is performed at the first month
of the fourth term.
(4) Degree dissertation must be completed by the postgraduate independently with the guidance of
tutor. The dissertation should have definite evidences, full and accurate data, fluent speech, tight logic,
reaching the level higher than the publication in the province-class academic journal. The dissertation

should obey the academic discipline of Shandong University that must mark out when quoting others’
view.
(5) To insure the quality of the dissertation, the writing time should not be less than one year,
20,000--30,000 words are suitable. The dissertation should reflect the graduate’s elaborate theoretical
base, special knowledge and independent researching ability.
(6) Dissertation defense is performed at the sixth term. After the dissertation is completed, it is
read and appraised by the committee and the tutor in accordance with the graduate degree principle of
Shandong University. The committee consist of 3-5 high-rate professional experts, including at lest one
expert from other university. The procedure of granting degree should obey the regulation of our state
and Shandong University.
VIII、Training approaches
Sticking to the principle of connecting theory with reality and combining theory with practice,
postgraduates and tutors can choose each other mutually. The tutors give lectures and organize
discussing classes, and devise selective courses for students according to the development of the faculty,
meanwhile the students can select the courses according to their research tendency. Through the practice
of teaching and researching and so on, cultivating students’ comprehensive quality and original creation
is advocated.
IX、Practice
It is required that the postgraduates go for practice of teaching,
researching and social investigation in accordance with the professional
feature.
