TSIRCON CO LTD MANUFACTURERS & TRADERS OF BUILDI NG MATERIALS Ημ. έκδοσης 5/2006 TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S Water Repellents Products 1. TSIRCO-REPELANT L is a solution of metal stearate complexes in a colourless organic solvent. 2. TSIRCO-REPELANT S is a siloxane-based water repellent in a colourless organic solvent. Purpose To provide a durable barrier to water penetration. Packing Available in 20lt plastic drums and 210lt metallic drums. Advantages TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S are easily applied water repellents formulated to prevent water penetration into the walls of buildings; water penetration is both harmful and unsightly. Water penetration through walls create many undesirable effects such as: reduced thermal and sound insulation, accelerated decay of the wall by carrying dirt and deleterious chemicals from the polluted atmosphere. TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S provide an invisible barrier against these attacks, which protects the walls from rapid deterioration and at the same time preserves their clean appearance. Introduction They are effective water repellents to be used for the treatment of cementitious substrates, brickwork, natural and artificial stones. Page 1 Head office: Strovolos Industrial Zone, P.O. They do no form a surface skin but they penetrate into the substrate and the treated surface will «breath», i.e. they will allow the passage of air and water vapour. Any trapped moisture in the substrate will easily dry out thus preventing the growth of fungus. The rapid shedding of water by TSIRCO-REPELANT-treated walls results in the maintaining of a clean appearance for much longer than would otherwise be the case. Furthermore due to its excellent repelling properties any dirt and deleterious chemicals from the polluted atmosphere will be prevented from penetrating into the substrate and thus the life of the wall is increased. Furthermore the effect of efflorescence is minimised and the risk of frost damage is reduced. That will also increase the resistance of the building against carbonation and chloride attack. Normally TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S do not cause any significant change in the appearance of the surface to be treated, in certain cases however, as with other water repellents, the nature of the substrate may result in the treated area to be slightly darker. This is usually considered insignificant but can easily be checked by a trial treatment of a small area. The material itself is virtually colourless and the effect is an optical one, due to decreased light diffraction. TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S DO NOT change at all appearance of any substrate even on any kind of stone. Durable treatment Under normal circumstances, TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S will retain its durability and water repellancy properties for over 10 years. The extend of weathering, to which the surface is exposed, will affect its life expectancy. Properties TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S conform to the performance requirements of BS6477: 1992 (Specification for water repellents for masonry surfaces). Page 2 Head office: Strovolos Industrial Zone, P.O. If the masonry to be treated is wet or has a non-porous surface, TSIRCOREPELANT L/S may not be absorbed resulting in white staining. The absorbency of the surface can be checked by treating a small test area and if in doubt about the receptivity of the surface, it is recommended that advice should be sought, from our Technical Department, before the treatment is commenced. How to use 1. Coverage rates: The coverage depends entirely upon the porosity of the surface and varies between 4 and 5m2 /litre. In most cases a single coat will be sufficient however for very porous surfaces a second coat may be necessary. In such a case the second coat should follow immediately after the first coat has been absorbed. 2. Preparation of surface: Care must be taken before application to ensure that all surfaces to be treated are sound, clean and dry. Apart from hairline cracks all other cracks and defects must be repaired. Any dirt should be cleaned thoroughly and organisms such as algae or lichens must be removed. The use of detergents must be avoided by all means as they may affect treatment and cause poor results. If the surface to be treated is damp, it must be allowed to dry before attempting treatment with TSIRCOREPELANT L/S. 3. Application: TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S are supplied ready for use and should be applied by brush or low-pressure spray. They must be applied liberally so that the products run freely down the surface for about 15cm below the application point. If the application is made by spray, the pressure must be kept as low as possible, to avoid excessive misting, and the nozzle must be held close to the surface. TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S will dry within a few hours and the full water repellancy is produced immediately after all the solvent has evaporated and no intermediate curing or ageing is required. May be cleaned with white spirit. 5. Precautions: Apply TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S to the complete wall and not to individual building units. This way you avoid the risk of treating a bedding face, which would detrimentally affect the mortar bond, and it also ensures that the faces of mortar joints are treated. 6. Safe handling: The applicator should wear gloves, goggles and long sleeved work wear. Avoid contact with the skin, however in case of accidental contact with the skin, wash off with soap and water. In case of eye splashes, irrigate with water for 20 mins. In both cases, if irritation persists seek medical advice. TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S have a low flash point (42oC) and the usual precautions against fire and prolonged breathing of solvent vapour should be taken. It is essential that during application the area is well ventilated to prevent build-up of solvent fumes. Storage life Not less than one year provided the products are kept in the manufacturers sealed containers and stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight. How to specify All surfaces as indicated shall be treated with TSIRCO-REPELANT L/S used strictly with in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturers, TSIRCON CO. LTD.
