Dear Parishioners, I am thanking God for the opportunity last week to spend time in the Benedictine Monastery in Weston, Vermont. I have been there many times and it is always a spiritual awakening for me to join the monks in prayer. They are a very welcoming group and aside from the snow toward the end of the retreat, it was a great experience for me. I must admit that seeing snow again sent a tremor up my spine when I suddenly remembered what it was like last winter and then to experience the snow again in October was too much for me. Of course, last Saturday was no prize for many people in our own state. Advent starts in a couple of weeks and we will provide opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation throughout the season. We will offer Penance to all the young people who are in PREP, St. Mary School and Mater Dei. Family members are encouraged to please speak about forgiveness at home. Make forgiveness an obvious piece of family life. Help the young people with the Act of Contrition by praying it together as a family. Living as a forgiving people is the best way to prepare for the celebration of the Sacrament, let us all pray for the strength to be such people together. The Diocese of Trenton has sent all of us another reminder regarding our Stewardship of Treasure. Last year at this time they initiated this effort and they have sent all of us this current reminder. Together with our Stewardship Fair that is happening these weekends we are in a time period for everyone to make their decisions regarding stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure. Prayerfully make those decisions in the coming days and make the commitment that God is calling you to. I have shared with you before about the level of comfort or discomfort that we might feel inside of us as we begin to use the new translation of the Mass. Everything has to do with our attitude. I believe that the Holy Spirit speaks through our Church leaders and they are calling us to use this translation in our language that puts us more in tune with all the other languages in the world through the specificity of language that is used. All of us receive this in prayer. If we do - that context will give us the support we need to open our hearts in faith to it and pray it faithfully. Remember today in Middletown we have the Veteran’s Day Parade beginning from Bayview School at 1:00 p.m. Come out and cheer on the participants as they pass through. Grow in awareness of the sacrifice of so many for the cause of freedom. God bless all of you, Fr. While the celebration of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist is the climactic point in becoming Catholic, it is not the end of the journey. Jesus’ mission was to proclaim the reign of God. He came among us to transform the world into a kingdom of truth, grace, holiness, love, justice and peace. When we are baptized into Christ Jesus we inherit the mission that Jesus entrusted to His church. In the process of Christian formation, the church is charged with the responsibility of preparing new members for active discipleship. Everyone is blessed with different gifts. Parish catechumenate ministers are called to help each catechumen or candidate discern his or her gifts, and to support the use of those gifts for the life of the world! How Do We Do This? The RCIA initiation process allows the members to discover a deeper Christian identification with Christ through study, EXAMPLE, and practice. The members experience this initiation into the sacramental life as they experience Christian Community. Continued Blessings, parishioners, for the enthusiastic witness you render to the RCIA members. +Sister Gloria Bishop O’Connell Annual Appeal - 2011 Thank You! Yet, the wise were the ones who brought all they had for the Lord. They did not keep anything back, like the foolish virgins who only brought the least that they could. Reflecting on these virgins we must ask ourselves if we are bringing God all that we can or are we holding things back from God, expecting others to cover for us? Will you be ready when the great day comes? Imagine what it would be like to have Jesus say to you. . . . . . “You’ve served Me well. Come into my arms to stay.” 7 THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Furniture Needed! We have a number of folks who will be moving into new apartments soon. All of them need just about everything!
